    Ben

    Did not check the figures.

is a VVT a verial geometry turbo as in Variable Vane Turbo? I don't think that the TD5 comes with a VVT then I though it is a waste gate controlled turbo.

Not that it affects your figures

    INSERT MY POST
    Hmmm

And yes I had a 3", and yes I had overspeed issues.

Mind you mine was tuned harder than most...

But I am sure glad that you can use the search function

I'll eventually go dyno my vehicle and have a 3" fitted as well... We will see....

And for the record TD5s dont run 22psi stock (or modified in most cases) closer to 15psi, the dont rev to 5000+, they overrun to over that...
And they (stock) dont have a VVT, VNT, VD or a HSV

But hey... Going an testing all of this like I used to...Well its just TFH...

Thanks for your great post full of tech and free from BS

    The specs I found:
peak power is @ 4850 for a disco TD5 manual and 5000 for a TD5 auto. Feel free to correct those numbers???

OK, so max before overboost is ~22psi? And stock is ~15++?? Bottom line is a tweaked TD5 pushing low 20's (as many people are) will be flowing the same air as a tweaked TD42T running ~15 psi.

Btw - the magic 10% rule you mentioned, the only place in the whole of the interweb (and chemical/mechanical engineering and tuning texts) I can find it is the td5 alive website...

Why are you so special with overboost issues??? I cannot find any reports from the others with 3" exhausts...?

Safari Equip in the UK sell a 3" system - even for 90's!!! (the shortest exhaust and therefore lowest back pressure)

I can't see how people can be selling/fitting 3" exhausts to TD5s if it will produce such drastic and catastrophic turbo failure from overspeed issues???

    You know what.....

    You are absolutely correct...

The leading TD5 tuners have absolutely no idea what theyre talking about.

Nor does Turbo Technics who make and modify turbochargers for a living.

I must be a complete horses Arse to even think they may have the dyno time and experience to know any better.

It appears that I have no purpose on this forum. And will no longer reply to
ANY further posts on ANY thread in ANY part of this forum.

In fact, **** it, **** this time consuming ****ing vortex. I'm ****ing sick of text book ****ing **** being thrown back at me. I ****ing have had overboost issues, I've tested the **** out of more custom spec suspension than I care to recall. I've tried different bloody engine tunes and combinations, tyres ****, I've had hundreds of the bastards, and I've shared the friggin lot of this experience with this forum and wasted bloody hours of my damn time in here when I could have been out on the Landrover or off actually driving the bastard grey ****ing thing.

Well, that's what this fat ***** is off to do from now on....

    Sorry Inc.....

Sorry you feel that way Mike. I was just trying to get to the bottom of the issue, which I am interested in. The only reports of "overspeed" in TD5 turbo's seem to be from you and TD5alive / alive tuning. And while they may be the "experts" in TD5 tuning, they also have a vested interest in selling their exhaust systems. AFAIK you are affiliated with them?

The garrett turbo tech section implies that if a turbo overspeeds then it is incorrectly sized for the application??? AFAIK "overboost" and "overspeed" are not the same thing, as when a turbo overspeeds it will drop off its efficiency map and produce heat but not much else???

Again, I was hoping for a technical discussion, which would help TD5 owners.
