Detroit is easy and can be done at home if you are careful and have some mechanical knowleage.

Also, thanks to each other poster for your advice. I'm sure everybody's got their own experiences, opinions and beliefs, and have genuinely tried to help me in my quest for more traction! I'm also confident that all systems mentioned have their pros and cons, and probably all would be better than just an open diff.

I reckon I'll just stick to a Detroit in the rear for a while, and see if I find myself needing/wanting a solution for the front. A few trustworthy types have told me I'll probably never need it, but we'll see

So, I guess I'm off to Lucky8, then find someone to install it for me for a fair price (hint, hint Dave!). Is this the one I should be chasing? Lucky8 Llc. - Take the road less traveled...

    I agree with Ron
I don't think you will regret the Detroit.I have a Detroit in my rear Salisbury in my 110 and never know its there except when doing sharp turns on wet ground,ie turning around in my front yard, where I can see that both rear wheels are locked because the added traction makes the tyres really dig in to the grass
But you really need replacement axles with the Detroit, due to the fact that if an axle breaks, the floating metal will usually destroy the Detroit.
I run mine with 35's and have no problems, but make sure that it is set up properly,as they require the correct backlash, and a lot of people set them up without backlash, which causes problems.
And again,I recommend Justin at Lucky8,that is where I got mine from a while ago,and the dollar has certainly gone up a lot since then.

I had a No spin in my last 110 ute, I could not tell it was even their.

I had it fitted by diff lapping in brisbane, I was going to give it a go myself but it was worth the extra cash getting it fitted by a pro.

I did drive it for a while with no front prop shaft now with a 200+hp td5 with a locked rear end and a light alloy tray that was wild ....

A detroit in the front causes very heavy steering & tries to pull the wheels to the straight ahead position. I currently have one ( a Richmond copy thereof ) in the front of a GQ ( I'll wash my mouth out later ! ) It is OK there because I can disengage the front hubs & the 4wd lever and it just sits & bludges
Last rig I had was an Isuzu Rangie with a detroit in the rear which was brilliant, no vices, full traction when needed & no problem steering ,on or off road. It had an air locker in the front & that can make for going straight ahead sometimes despite steering angle & fervent prayers ! ( when engaged of course) Hope this helps, Regards Ian
