Thread: Thinking of selling the SVX

SVX won't hold value much more than 2-3k over a std version after 5 years or so...

And as time goes on, the lemon that is the TDCi driveline will quickly put paid to value of any current defender.

Let's see how it turns out in 5 years...

Back to big boat - I would hate to be in a 90 if the trailer got happy....
Stick with a 110 for such a big boat...
Even my 19'6" gets twitchy on my D2 (100") on the D3 it's no bother at all.

Nope - they stuck a little tag on it, whacked a few grand worth of bits on it and bumped the price up by about about 10 times the cost of those extras...

    .

If you think that the PUMA drive line is such a "lemon", then why would you continue sell your power up grades kits that would make it even more vulnerable ?

Power doesnt affect leaks, vacuum pump failures, vibration, poor driveline angles...

And there is a market for those who still choose to upgrade their vehicles

There will always be those who want more, power, lift etc... The power upgrades are safe for the engine... Doesnt mean anything compared to pump failures etc which are outside the relms of power output.

The "Puma" (dash, gearbox etc) is a great update - poorly executed....
and lacking refinement - time to market seems to be a huge factor around this....

I don't know if anyone can say what the respective retained value of any current or recent model Defender wille be. This is entirely at the mercy of whatever design Landrover come up with for the replacement. If they nail it (like I believe they did with the current model Range Rover) then values will drop a lot. If they fluff it or just do a mediocre job (like I believe they did with the P38A Range Rover before it) then values will drop only a little.

With regard to the SVX vs standard issue Defender, I was always of the opinion that you never buy a special or limited edition vehicle as they don't necessarily retain more value that their stock standard counterparts. Special edition vehicles need to be really special and substantially different from their standard siblings to be potentially collectible. The SVX enhancement are all cosmetic and as others have pointed out, not really necessary for the intended use of the vehicle.

Is a series 1 Discovery Rossignol worth any more than a standard series 1 Discovery? I think not. The SVX is not different enough from a standard Defender to be particularly collectible and in the long run should be worth about the same.

For my 2 cents worth, if i was you i would keep the svx, the 110 is far better suited to the job you need it for than the 90.

Now as for the collectable or not debate let me say anybody who wants to collect svx's...... in a months time i will have a a lovely collectable one available, it has original patina and would suit any serious collector more details to follow in the near future........got to go now i think J Leno is on the phone

Well , I certainly know where I won't be getting any upgrades to my " lemon " of a tdci! Seems someone really understands the art of selling here !

Fair crack pal , what is it with know it all people these days ! Each to their own , and if nothing nice to say , why say it at all . Im very happy with my SVX.
