Engine shelf life and L/R tanks

    Hey all.

Could anyone out there give me rough shelf lives of the varying engine options for the Defenders out there if assuming they engine has been maintained and serviced regulary?

Also, for those out there who have thrown some extra fuel capacity into their defender, what capacity do you now have - has anyone managed to put a second tank in aswell as having room for a gas conversion?

    Cheers

My 200 Tdi has over 300,000 on the clock and has been regularly serviced I have changed the timing belt and put a new clutch and had the gearbox reconditioned with the centre shaft being redone and new bearing right through it. Apart from that it has run like a clock.

I have a 120 litre tank that was on it when I bought it and no problems with that either

I have a "defender-shaped" Isuzu 4BD1 powered Land Rover 120. The engine has around 420k on the clock and was only recently turboed by yours truly. It's noisy, but goes well. Very well. And shows no signs of stopping. There are some members that have over 1M clicks on their original 4BD1. 130L main tank, and a 110L auxiliary, which I never use. THe LR 120 is a single cab tray, so I have a lot of unused under-tray space.

I also have a 3.9L fuel injected Rover V8 in a Land Rover 90, 65(?)L tank that I get 300kms out of, if I'm lucky. I'm on the 2nd engine and it has about 80,000 kms on it. The first one got overheated and I suspected had a slipped liner. Properly looked after, and NEVER overheated, V8's will last for around 300 to 400k.

    200 and 300 tdi's are good for 500k plus.

Isuzu is good for well over 500k

As for the newer engines (td5 and transit engine) I'm not familiar with them sorry.
