Mine are the same, never thought much about it...
Dunno why, but the flares on my 1995 110 are all 'sparkly', i.e. in the sun they have shiny flecks through them, and aren't quite smooth to touch (like very fine sandpaper)
Interestingly, I think one of my flares on the 1994 130 is starting to go the same way, but wasn't like that when I bought it a few months ago!
I'll try and get a photo to help explain better. Anyone else had/have this?

you have the twilight edition flares.....
apparently the normal dark morbid ones weren't attractive enough to the women.

There was always two types
The earlier ones had a rough feel and were glittery. Then in the mid 90's when the decided to spray the arches the same colour as the car they changed to smooth standard black

yep my '98 defender has sparkles too, I have blackened them once before but the high pressure hose removes it straight away. Same deal with armour all, lasts only a little while 'til sparkles return.
Mine are sparkly too - just consider it the extent of Defrender "bling"
It's ironic though - non metallic duco and metallic flares !
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Anyone tried using Vinyl dye on them?
Works great on plastic grills and headlight surrounds and penetrates rather than just being a paint layer.
Steve
I've got a couple of old ones here. I'll try and remember to check on the weekend if they are sparkly and if they are I'll try the dye on a patch.
