    TD5 heaters - How much heat do they put out?

    Hi all,
    Will be buying a Defer TD5 130 in the not too distant future(cant aford a new puma )

    Have read that the Defender heaters are not the best at putting out heat.
    Would like to get it working properly so I dont have to suffer the cold during the winter months driving home @ 0200 hrs in the morning.
    So has anyone changed the heater core or anything else so that it puts out some heat for the winter months.

    i find mine very good???

    just giv it ttime to warm up and i need to tern it down slightly,,

    and set the air to feet, i have mine set to both most times tho, but if its ****ing cold i set it to feet seems to work better

    As with any motor car, you can ensure that your thermostat is working correctly, and then of course you can blank part (half to two-thirds) of the radiator (not the intercooler though). I find suitable material for this is the corrugated plastic sheet that real estate agents use for signs - and there's plenty of these kind of signs around .


    don't forget to take it out when he weather warms up though !

    Mine (2004 TD5 Defender) works really well once the engine warms up.
    It does take me about 7km to warm up though, been thinking about blocking some of the radiator - I did take out the thermostat and checked it, but my car still takes 3-5 times longer than dad's TD5 disco to warm up - I have a Webasto heater I've been thinking of fitting, but might try a disco thermostat first, - I wonder if they fit a stronger spring in the diverter for the Discos? or are they the same part number?

    My 2005 model is OK, It does keep your toes warm but was struggling in near zero temp to keep the back seat passengers warm. As mentioned, it takes a while to warm up.
    My previous (2001 model) was better.
