If you want a lower gear, try 4th![]()

If anything on road it needs a higher ratio gear, not lower.

yes my mistake higher gear ratio , was thinking lower revs
Cool now we are getting somewhere. The easiest solution is to replace the transfer case with a Disco one (find one with CDL). This gives taller gearing in high range, but retains the same low range gearing. Depending on what is available often can be cheaper than changing the ratio itself. This option is basically an out and in job and that again if you decide the gearing is too high. The advantage of doing this is you can sell the surplus transfer case or rebuild it at your leisure.
I was going to go down this path and actually had a wreck to do so but moved to Newman and did not have time to strip the wreck.
The downside of doing this is you may find towing you need to change down to 4th a lot more. It really needs a 6spd box.
Hope this helps.
