    Where is this written in the regulations/guidelines? In NSW at least (and it was the same regulation despite what people think) this isnt written in as far as I can remember. Mind you the alzheimers!

    Actually, NSW is metal to metal rather than a bumpstop measurement.

    Don't touch the springs! If you want to lower your defender why don't you just get some flashy pimped wheels and low profile tyres? Say 285/55 r16 or even 305/50 R16's performance tyres or HT's.
    This way you can keep a set of good mud tyres on steel rims (say a 255/85 r16 bfg or bighorn) and a street set and you also retain your ride and suspension travel but still get the height reduction you need.
    If you cut or replace your springs you will botom out and end up with a much firmer/ harsher ride. It will also devalue the defender as who would want to buy a lowered off roader?

    I was thinking some 20" inch rims and 35 profile tyres and a big doof doof box for the back.It would look like half the other 4wds I see around town then
