    Cool 110 V8 Heater Removal

    Evening all!

A quick question please. I need to remove the heater box from my 110 V8 with A/C (huge heater box in the engine bay type). I can see 2 bolts at the top of the box going into the bulkhead and 2 beneath going into the passenger footwell, is it just these 4 screws that hold it in place, i.e. like a 'normal' non A/C heater box?

Anybody removed one of these A/C types and remember how to do it? Seems like the carb elbows might have to come off?

    Any advice appreciated!

It's been a few years since I took mine out to get the pipes welded up, but from what I remember... yes, I think it's just the 4 bolts you have identified. If hard to remove it might be stuck to the bulkhead by old sealant.

Took mine off recently same bulbous type box

4 bolts inside passenger footwell/firewall held on by slide/spring type captive nuts on wheel arch side - don't loose these otherwise you will need 2 people to re-install.
2 captive bolts at engine bay side of firewall just under bonnet
There may have been one to the guard near the front of the box as well.
    Did not remove inlet manifold.
    Disconnect wiring via snap fitting

    LovemyV8county,
    Clive22,

Thanks for the fast responses. Just taken a photo of the heater now, is this the same type you guys have? Clive, noted you didn't take the inlet off but can't see how to get it out otherwise...

    Any more advice please?
    Cheers,

    Gareth

    Hi
I have the same model you have, and I am most interested in taking the heater radiator out as I am getting very little warmth these cold days.

I am watching this thread very closely because I have not got, and I have not been able to find, a wiring diagram, or a vacuum tube diagram, and of course I have no doco on the heater-A/C unit, so I am hoping someone who may have these might respond.

Otherwise it is a case of undoing things and seeing what happens. I must say I am tired of removing the air filter and taking those elbows off the carbs!

    Evening Jim,

I took out my heater box today (4 screws in the passenger footell, 2 on the bulkhead and 1 just in front of the heater motor) and after figuring out that 2 screws that hold the top in place are cunningly concealed below the land rover and warning stickers the unit all came apart quite easily.

The heater matrix just pops out of the cae once the lid is off, if your heater is not working then that is your problem. I'm not particularly super wth the spanners but it was really easy to remove the whole thing, give it a go.

I'm in the process of taking the whole unit apart and am taking notes so will try to put something together to upload. Thing is I'm doing the taking apart in the bathroom while the girlfriend is away so in a bit of a rush, she's back on Monday

    Hi Gareth,
I assume you have A/C connected. Could you get that top cover off while the A/C was still gassed up?

I solved my immediate problem which was no heat in the cabin, by disconnecting the 2 vacuum taps and replacing them with a manual operation tap from Repco. One of the vacuum taps must not have been working correctly. Never mind, I will just switch it on in the winter and off in the summer.

I will be interested in any more data you put into the forum.

    Best regards

    Jim

    Danny,
Thanks for the suggestion, but these manuals are dated 1984, and they do not have later year supplements, so the 1985 County is not included and it's A/C and heater are quite different.

If you are aware of later manuals please let us know!

    Regards

    Jim.

A hero who goes by the handle Clive22 has sent me the instructions for the 85 County A/C and I am happy to share. Clive can definitely claim me for a beer when we meet!

I am still after the vacuum line diagram. It is a mystery especially when some parts are now simply disintegratiing. I have most of it operational through trial and error, but it's one of those things where there are about 6 ports and 5 lines giving 30 combinations or so, to test, and when one flips off...well aaargh!
