Thread: Suggestions on routing power for external compressor connection

G'day all!

Have bought an external air compressor to take along in the Defender, for pumping up tyres etc.

The unit comes with the standard alligator-clips to connect directly to the battery terminals. My setup came with dual batteries, both under the passenger seat, which is a pain in proverbial to get to sometimes.

What other solutions have people used to get power more easily to something like this? The rear of the 110 has two auxiliary power sockets already wired in, so perhaps putting a standard accessory plug on the compressor would be an option?

I though about perhaps running some wires, and putting some posts somewhere that could be kept covered when not in use?

Any advice appreciated.

You can route a pair of wires out of the battery box and along the LHS chassis rail to have them emerge either at the front / back or side of the car. Fit a fuse on the battery side, and an Anderson plug with a rubber cap on the outside. The Anderson plug can be tucked away, or screwed onto a mounting point.

I've got an in built compressor, but I've done this, and piggy backed an Anderson plug onto the alligator clips of my battery charger, that way I can plug in the Defender in the carport, but I retain the alligator clips for charging other cars / batteries. You can do the same with your compressor.

This also allows you to make up an Anderson plug extension lead and run your fridge out to your camping shelter / tent.
