Fuel Quality 5% biodiesel its in the handbook page 69

Just a heads up on fuel quality recommended by LR.The hand book states -'Land Rover vehicles are capable of running WITH UP TO A 5% Blend of biodiesel,in accordance with European Standard EN590.'

This is taken from a handbook for a 2010 series Defender, with a common rail engine.
I was just raising this, should any issues come to light with your CR diesel fuel system, especially in the warranty period. If possible damage occurs from using a higher % biodiesel, ie B20 {20% biodiesel}. You could be left with a hefty bill. Warranty is like insurance ,you pay for it in the price of the vehicle, like insurance the fine print can bring you unstuck!

Regardless even out of warranty if a manufacturer recommends this 5% I will abide by this unless the manufacturer permits an increase % in Biodiesel.

I'm not here to debate or dictate the whys and the wherefores of biodiesel.
Just posted this to make those of you who may not read 'owners handbook',aware, be very aware!!

Could that be because ALL diesel can have up to 5% bio in AU without labelling?

    Diesel Fuel Quality Standard

As a diesel fitter I though you would know this.

ALL diesel vehicles sold in AU can be run on up to 5% bio, because ALL diesel sold in AU can have up to 5% bio

(I wish I had $5 for every time I had posted this...)

[EDIT - can we PLEASE make the fuel quality standard a sticky somewhere???]

And I think from mid 2012 ALL diesel sold in NSW WILL have 5% bio added. Would have been higher except that various makers would not warrant their engines meaning in some circumstances the NSW Government could be told by courts to pay for engine repairs.

    Any source for this?

I know that BP WA currently does not add bio and has no plan to AFAIK.

Germany/EU already has 10% bio without labelling AFAIK. So what you say about manufacturers not warranting more is incorrect.

NSW Government legislation - I believe 10% ethanol is now in all non premium unleaded - should have come in on 1 July this year (I doubt the new govt cancelled it). B5 for all diesel was to follow 12 months later so mid next year.

It is in the NSW Hansard somewhere.

Sorry - missed the "NSW" in your first post.

Yes - you are more or less correct:

Shell in Ourimbah NSW are still selling non premium unleaded without 10% ethanol.

(I just gave them a call to double check.)

Dad drives a 2009 D-Max ... Isuzu told him, that ANY Bio found in the fuel system at the time of a warranty claim will VOID his warranty ... under NO circumstance should Bio be used in the D-Max ... ???

Confused ??? If it can be blended to 5% without having to display a notice on the bowser to such affect, what chance have you got ?

The 5% diesel in petro-diesel rule came in in March 09.

The info he was told is either out of date or incorrect.

However, that said, if the engine died and the tank had more than B5 in it...
