In my 2010 Defender I've moved the original battery tray outboard and forward, this has left heaps of space for another battery, in this case a yellow top Optima. This battery will happily run my 50l Waeco for 2 days, it's now 4 years old and still going strong.

I made up a tray for the Optima, (the battery strap/bar is a non-conductive resin), that mounts the battery as far forward as possible, this allows space for the factory jack. The messy jumble of wires is my, (carefully stowed ), winch controller. The battery controller is mounted to the front of the seat box out of the way. The only thing I want to add is a decent set of terminal covers for the aux battery.

    Thanks Tim
That's the battery I was thinking of using, I measured it up last night and now it's just a matter of getting time to make the necessary modifications. I already have a large deep cycle in SWMBO'S car running the fridge, but I dont think it will fit. I will have a go this weekend and post a couple of photo's of a cleanbattery box.
    Cheer Ian
