    lowered shock mounts.....

does anyone have any lowered rear shock absorber mounts to suit a 03 fender that i could borrow......?
    or maybe even purchase cheap.......?

my shocks are topping out after only 1 inch of travel......and i want to work out if they are firm enough.......
but since they top out i cant tell......im trying to decide whether to get new shocks......or just lower the shock mounts and keep the current shocks.......

i can buy them new......they will cost me the same as 1 new shock absorber.....
so im stuck trying to decide.....if i buy the mounts and the shocks are no good....then im gonna have to buy shocks anyway......
if it all works fine with just the mounts......then i get away with half the cost......

if only i had more funds.......

    cheers......

lowered mounts are really a waste of time.

Because what you gain in down travel you will loose in up travel. So you will have to extend the bump stomps by the same amount.

Are you running std lenght shocks with a lift?

The best option is to raise the shock mounts and fit longer shocks. to retain the up travel and increase down travel.

Yep....standard length shocks with a 2 inch lift......
The shocks that came with the kit were standard length.....

The bump stops are now 2 inches further away from the chassis....so plenty of room.....
But after only 1inch of diff downtravel.....the shocks top out and try to bounce everything out the back door....

Would anyone know if dobinsons shocks are any good.....?

    Cheers.....Tony....

As Benny said get a set of longer shocks.Companies suck people in to buying a "kit" when what people really need is springs, and then measure the flex available with the springs fitted, checking the open and closed lengths of the shocks fitted. As far as shocks go,it depends on what you want to do with the vehicle, different shocks recommended for a weekend rock climber to an expedition vehicle.

Yes, but i was talking in terms of money, by the time you buy the lowered mounts and longer bump stops. And you will habe gained no extra travel.

You will be well on your way to getting some good shocks that offer much better travel.

For a simple bolt on upgrade i would run gywn lewis challange mounts and old man emu shocks (60070L) is the part number.

If you want a little cheap terrafirma do a copy of the gwyn lewis kit mounts and shocks. They seem to be pritty good, people on this forum run there gear.

i bought springs and shocks over a year ago...may even be 2 years.......cos my standard suspension had sagged a little as lurch has been putting on weight......

so i ordered springs and shocks.....the springs were dobinsons......the shocks were ultima......i had no idea what shocks i was getting......i only what springs.....
the springs also hold lurch up 2 inches higher......the springs are fine......but the shocks that came were standard length........because i didnt fit them straight away when they arrived.....i couldnt call up 2 months later and say to the supplier
that the shocks sent out were too short.......

now im going to try and start going on a few trips again as i struggle to save up some dollars for fuel.......
so i also want to correct the rear shocks so i have some up travel.......it all works fine otherwise.......

but i might just go and get a pair of cheap shocks for the rear......i can get some for $250 a pair........one of the brands is dobinsons....
the other i cant remember.....ill just them 2 inches longer and it should be all good.....

i wont be rock hopping any more cos i cant afford to do any repairs.......so some simple touring close to home is all im after for a while......

with just a little more upward travel......it should be fine......ill set it up for serious off roading again when the financial situation allows......

ive decided to get the new shocks.....2 inches longer than standard....which should give me 3 inches of travel.....and shouldnt allow the springs to fall out.......
