Try pumping the brake peddle 10 times with the ignition on which I believe turns the T/C off and see if the problem happens then. Pat

						Hello All,
I've been experiencing an annoying and mysterious noise when taking off from standstill, either in first or reverse, and only intermittently, ie maybe only once a week, but then it may happen 3 times in a day, and not again for another week. It sounds to me like a grinding noise from gears, not good in my opinion.
I hadn't realised, but my wife says the TC light comes on when this happens and also an electronic beeping sound, and now I'm looking for it I do see the traction control light on most of the gear grinding noise episodes.
The dealer doesn't really want to see the car until we can reproduce the problem consistently and says that the TC pump and consequent "pulsing" of the brake on the spinning wheel can sound like gears crunching. Does this sound likely to any of you? And how can I trick the TC into operating in order to confirm or disprove the diagnosis? preferably in a suburban environment.
Regards
Tieds

Pat303 does the TC reset to normal if you switch of and restart? This would be a great option in the sand. The TC is a pain in the backside on duens when it kills your momentum trying to stop the spinning wheel. I've been reluctant to remove fuses as suggested in earlier threads.
tieds, my missus also get the TC to make sounds on the hard stuff. I've tried, but not managed to replicate it yet...Regardless, the TC is a noisy afair.

I read on the defender2 forum that pumping the peddle switches it off until you turn the vehicle off and restart it. Pat
The 'twaaang' when taking off is common, I get it all the time. Although when that happens the TC light does not come on.
TC in sand is not a problem if you:
1. have the correct tyre pressure
b. have the required momentum
As for disabling the ABS/TC by pumping the brake pedal 10x, it does not work on mine.
