    In Dash GPS late TD5, Ideas ??

    Looking for opinions on fitting an indash Navigation to MY04 TD5 Defender.

    I have a TP09X1 unit in the Toyota & its excellent as it loads Oziexplorer with all my hema & vicmaps , The Toyota size is wider than 2DIN & would fit the TD5 cutout groove almost spot on

    I know you can fit a 2DIN unit to an earlier def using a MUD Console

    Something like this would be ideal
    I believe you need to cut away the existing dash behind the fascia , This looks like the Toyota Size rather than 2DIN. Id rather not hack the dash too much.

    There are a lot of 1DIN units that will fit inplace of the existing 1DIN Radio but Im thinking I dont like the slide out & flip up screens, Anyone got one fitted, how do they handle rough going ??

    I might compromise & try this

    It looks like the screen will sit in the unused space below the radio instead of getting in the way of the switches above the radio, & being a WINCE OS it will take Oziexp on SD no problems

    Anybody tried this style or am I going to be the guniea pig ??

    OK, So from the silence I assume nobody here has fitted indash Navigation,

    I bought a Chinese OneDin unit off Ebay US $280 inc postage,
    If anyone interested PM me & will give the item no.

    Its a tight fit , something about a fish comes to mind.

    All in All Bloody Good. 8gb SD card holds Oziexplorer plus all my Hema Maps & Vicmaps. The TFT screen clips in but I put some doubleside tape behind it as I wont be unclipping it & just incase I bump the eject screen button.
    Its way better that the $1000 piece of crap Hema/VMS GPS I had

    Put GPS antenna on guard as it gets better all round satellite view than on the dash. Reversing camera works a treat much better than the tiny 3.5" one I had to use reading glasses to see - makes trailer hookup a breeze.

    Ipod interface is great & it actually charges the ipod, most dont.

    Only downside is I cant workout how to listen to the radio while on Navigation screen, like the one I had in the Toyota would.

    I like it.
    I wonder how this would go a D2, looks to be a simpler option than full blown car PC.

    Hows the bluetooth, did the reverse cam come as part of the deal.

    The bluetooth actually works very well, much better than the Garmin Nuvi BT, when the phone rings the Navigation cuts out & comes up with the BT screen almost instantly. The Garmin took about two rings before I could answer. I already had the reverse cam, have tried various ones but eonon (ebay) are good & waterproof .

    If you can put your music on USB or iPod and don't need a CD player, then maybe an Anroid Tablet (iPad copy) for under $100 (ex China) may do the trick. I'm not sure if they have a radio or not, and if they do, it would only be FM, but it will be cheap, no drilling required, removable, updatable etc.

    I haven't fully investigated this option, I'm currently using a toughbook laptop/tablet PC for navigation, but I'm thinking this may be the next way to go.
