    roverdrive overdrive

Has anyone fitted the Roverdrive overdrive to a td5 Defender and if so how did it go?
My defender has been remapped, bigger intercooler etc, so power and torque not an issue.
Looks pretty simple to fit so really interested in economy and reliability and those sort of issues and anything else of interest that may have popped up.

I originally thought of the disco t/case but this is similar in price and I can take it with me if I sell the truck.

    Cheers,
    Paul.

    95 300Tdi Ute (sold)
    2003 XTREME Td5

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

Can't help you with your questions sorry, but Discos are appearing in self serve wrecking yards down here, and transfercases sell for a couple of hundred dollars.

interested in feedback too. they seem to be reliable from what ive read and not having probs of the GKN model. my feel is in my case disco tf would be too high first gear with a good load on. but thats stock td5 110.

did you get any price in aus?

I recently got a quote of a little over 3k from British Offroad who are the Austrlain distributor, sounds like a good unit but my GKN is doing a good job at the moment.

Have been making inquiries about a Roverdrive for a TD5 as well, including with suppliers in the UK unfortuantely they appear reluctant to send one to Aus as there is a local supplier. From the information I have been given it would be about $500 cheaper to ship one in after paying customs their share.

I don't know why you would be buying a Canadian made Roverdrive from a supplier in the UK.

Go direct to Roverdrive Gear Corporation - Home they were having trouble with their Au agent and would supply direct. Ray Wood is good to deal with and even has an ex-Aussie Isuzu County. They were concerned that the Aussie retail price had not dropped against the rise in the Aussie$ when the effective wholesale price to them had dropped significantly.

One thing I will say is that the ratio change in the Roverdrive on an LT230 is almost identical to the difference between 4th and 5th, so while you get an overdrive (6th) gear 4th overdrive is almost the same as 5th. No gear splitting.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Have you had any luck finding a gear maker to modify your overdrive output gear Diana?

I might have mentioned it before, not sure.
About 30years ago I got Hardeman Bros Gear MFG in Oakleigh, now Moorabbin Melb. to make me a couple of series t/case gears with a 4 spline centre for my 6x6 drop boxes. They had to buy or make a special cutter shaper,so they charged me an arm and two legs for the gears, because the tooth profile is unique to Rover. I assume they would still have the tool and should be capable of cutting your gear.
