    New Defender 110

    Hello,
I have recently purchased a defender 110 with NSW registration UVJ 429 and this is my first post regarding this car.

The service log has no entries past about 2005 so if you know the history of the vehicle please let me know.

Since purchase I have changed the filters and oil, fitted a new front passenger seat belt, changed the belt tensioner bearing, fitted a new fan belt, fixed a leak in the rear window washer (it "rained" on the front passenger ), removed some of the window tint (I can now see out of the back!), removed some massive speakers from the back, lubricated everything that moves, fitted bailey strip in the rear widows and a generally tidied up the car. There is a slight oil leak in the gear box and the spot lights don't work and I should get the timing belt changed given the lack of service history.

Anyway, so far so good, and if you have any information , let me know.

    Glenn,
    Sydney.

    Welcome

    Hi Glenn

Welcome aboard to the forum. You have the best vehicle, if you like to tinker.

    Cheers Arthur

Hi Glen, best of fun with the 110, and best of luck with finding the front passenger's water leak, when you do please do tell. It might turn into a drivers side leak also pending a left hand turn, or a decent.

Do a searche on the timing chain, it's more related to distance I think than time.

    new Defender

    Hi,
I've fixed the leak above the passenger seat, it was the non return valve for the rear washer. A massive $4 for a new one

    Re Timing Belt:

If it's a 4pot 300TDi, definately change the timing belt. With the correct set of tools, it's a doddle to do.

    If it's a 5pot TD5, don't bother... It's a chain.

    @Camel_Landy,
It's a 300Tdi. When you change your belt do you change just the belt or buy the complete kit, (tensioners, gaskets etc). Mine is a 98 and I thought the tensioner problem (or pulley?) was fixed on the later models?

Buy the kit and do it ASAP, and at every 70000km thereafter.

You might as well get the kit. That way, you'll know it is done & have piece of mind.

    (Just do it ASAP!)
