    Puma UHF Options

    Hi All,
I know this has been discussed before, but I’m struggling a bit with the search function to find the info I’m after. I would very much appreciate some information/pictures on ideas for fitting my UHF radio in the Puma.
I’ve gotten hold of a GME 3540 (link below), which basically means I don’t need access to the head unit and an external speaker would be a viable option if need be. I’ve considered various options on, under and around the cubby box, I’ve nosed around the actual dash (haven’t taken anything apart yet) and I’m even considering a roof console from “Department of Interior”.

Any input will be much appreciated.

    Hi Loubrey,

My bus is a 110 cab/chassis and I've also got a GME 3540 with the unit behind the passenger seat and the mike sitting at the front of the cubby box.

    Cheers

    I've got the same radio.

The unit is mounted on the left hand side of the cubby.

I have the handset located on the left hand side next to the SVX logo in Drover's picture. (electric brake unit is on the other side)

I have a GME TX3100 mounted to the forward facing slope of the cubby box. Unit is on the drivers side and microphone mounted on the possenger side. Doesn't interfear with gear changing nor cup holders; and mic readily at hand. I often drive with the microphone draped over my leg when lots of conversation taking place.

Fitted a Rono roof console so I could use a full size UHF. Sound is much better than with the remote head units in my opinion as the speaker is not stuffed under the dash somewhere. Lose a bit of upward vision but as I am not an avid possum hunter it doesn't matter, and I don't need the visors as much. Works well for me.

you have the option of retaining the rear view or not. i chose to give it the flick as I will be converting the back to a tray with a camping unit so I have to use the side mirros then anyway.

See what I can do about a pic of the underside as I am fitting a tyre monitor this marvo and the display will be on the roof console.

not sure on the legalities of removing the review mirror but i am thinking of doing the same thing in favour of a rear view camera and screen. I am going to be building a alluminium canopy for the back of mine, including a fridge slide coming out the side, once thats in i wont have any view out the back window.

my understanding is that it is quite legal to remove the rear view as long as you have side mirrors
