Pin Configuration Injector to Main Harness

    G'day All,

Got myself some drama today on my 2001 Defender TD5 ex Telstra Big Cab. I have just experienced the engine misfiring problem related to oil in the injector harness. I pulled the plug on the main harness to cyl head / injector harness connection and it fell apart in my hand. Without thinkiing I also removed the silicone grommets which indicated the pin number connection. So I cant even jerry rig the plug because I dont have the info. Last thing I want to do is buy a new main harness at $1600.00 because it seems I cannot just buy a new plug. Any ideas?

    cheers

Think you'll find he's talking about the plug on the main loom, not the injector harness inside the rocker.

The plug should be available at least thru a dealer or check with Paddocks and other well known O/S suppliers. See if you can get the AMP part number off it or just use the injector harness part number as a reference.

The pinouts should be available somewhere in the electrical drawings on the Rave CD.

I have a PDF on the D2 but this should be the same. It will at least ID the colours v injectors but not the pinouts.
It should be fairly easy to match it too the injector harness though by following the wire placements.

The connector is not available from Land Rover, they want to sell you a complete new engine harness for ££££'s (or A$$$$'s )

The connector is not made by AMP (Tyco, now TE Connectivity), its made by ITT Cannon.

    It's a SLCT-8 Connector - http://www.ittcannon.com/uploadedFil...T-CLC-1apr.pdf

This is the internal connector, the external one isn't shown, but is referenced below, as - 098532-0008

For the Pinouts, you need to refer to RAVE

I've zipped and uploaded a couple of editions of RAVE to Extabit, the .zip files are here -

    DII (Pre-Facelift), Range Rover P38, Freelander 1 (up to 2001), Defender 300Tdi and TD5 (1999-2001) - RAVE_2001.zip

    DII (Post-Facelift), Freelander 1 (2001 onwards) - RAVE_2003.zip

You don't need a Premium Account to download them, you can do it for free, if you look down the page, under the PayPal logo, you'll find the link to the free download -

"I have no money, I want download for free"

The .zip archives, will unpack to a folder called RAVE_2001 and RAVE_2003 respectively, from which you can run RAVE, by double-clicking the RAVE.exe file.

You could cut the socket off a loom at a wreckers.

Something on my to-do list is to unravel the main loom back a few inches from the injector loom plug, and cut the wires & solder in a short length of bare solid copper wire into each conductor & encase in a liquid polymer resin block.
thus making it impossible for the oil to wick past this point via capilliary action to the ECU.

Someone should market a short add on loom extension made with such a resin block in it !!

There's already an upgraded injector loom, has been around for ages that fixes the issue with the internal plug passing oil thru badly sealed pins.

Did this for the Disco, but both pin outs and cable color coding are the same. Apologies for the extra pixels.
