Thread: Interesting Experience Today...

So I went down to Enzed today to purchase some hose barbs and such for my vege-oil system. Whilst i was there i was trying to discover the thread size for the fuel pickup that is on the sender of the 200tdi (if anyone know's that would be awesome).

Anyways, i went down my knees with a spanner to loosen the thread and crack - I had broken the thread with only the slightest of effort - breaking the fuel line to my car.

So instinctively I called the NRMA and asked for a tow home. After i was given a 90 minute estimate I emptied the petrol from my outboard motor, bought some 5/16th hose and routed the hose from the lift pump, through the bonnet, out the passenger side, through the passenger side window to the tank on the front passenger seat. I might add, I syphoned biodiesel from my tank into the outboard tank.

Well that was all well and good and I was all proud of myself until I realised that I totally forgot about the return line. Never the less the 20litres of fuel in that outboard tank didn't last very long at all. I was forced to turn my engine off at every traffic light or stall in the flow of traffic. It was at this time my electrics decided to fail. A problem, I've been having for the last while is blowing the fuse on the indicator/stop light circuit and there it went again.

Whilst driving I pulled my pliers out from the back seat and removed the fuse, replaced it and of course it doesn't work. So I'm driving through peak hour traffic with a litre of fuel, stopping and starting with no indicators or stop lights - and fuel leaking everywhere.

I made it to the service station with about a litre left in the tank. Whilst I was filling the tank with diesel (sacrilegious for me to buy petroleum) I noticed a fair amount of fuel spilling onto the ground and the staff member came out to have an absolute go at me.

All in all I still made my Physio appointment.

What a hassle. I'm thinking about driving my car around the back now and dropping my fuel tank to remove the sender. I ordered a new sender this evening so hopefully it'll turn up soon.

Does anyone know the thread size for the fuel pickup (and lift pump threads) for the 200tdi?

I had a short period where I was blowing the fuse for my left indicator and brake light every time I indicated left. Turned out that the flasher can had corrosion and was only affecting the left side of the circuit. Pulled it down cleaned it up with a bit of metho and 1 year on still going good.
