    one more tire question.

Sorry guys, I am interested in fitting Cooper STT 285/75 to my 2002 Defender Extreme. We have 50mm lift. My question will the size fit without rubbing.

    Hey mate..

They will fit, just might rub on radius arms on full lock and when flexing.

If you are running standard extreme alloy rims then yes, a lot. On max compression at the rear it will rub up on the inner guard and spring perch, on the front they will rub the radius rods (but is adjustable via steering stops with a big drop in turning circle) and be a pain in the bum. Why so wide? 255/85/16 is taller and better IME.

Justin, the reason for that size is because I am rather drawn to the Cooper tire and it would seem Cooper dont make a 255/85. Maybe I am wrong.

Just a question...what "draws" you to the Coopers? Have you had them previously?

FWIW I ask becuse I can't wait to wear out the Cooper H/Ts I currently have on my P38... The so called extra tread depth they claim is at the expense of the overall tread thickness... also their so called strengthened walls = a hard jarring ride... they spend a motza on advertising...guess I got drawn also = sucked in..no doubt there are many others who will disagree...) but am sure there must be better tyres for the price...

    cheers

Good point Hoges, not really sure why I like them. I was going to go for BFG MT2 255/85 and just thought I would look at the Cooper because they are there. The adds are great, lol.

Well, i for one would be trying a KM2 BFG in 255/85/16. I am running the early tread pattern BFG mud terrain still in that size, got 65K from the first set, still quite legal but fitted up the Wolf rims with new ones as I had 2 sets originally. 4 at 65K and now have 6 new fitted up on the Wolfs.

I have been disappointed by Cooper tyres in the past, won't make that mistake again as it was a costly one

Ayway, like they say, tyre choices are very personal, so that is my personal opinion only.

    No worries,

But I must mention that my experience was with ST, NOT STT. Sorry about that, I have heard some people get good results from STT's.
I should read the OP more carefully next time...

+1 for KM2's, can't fault them. One of my brand newbies was on the back of the 130 and something rubbed a nice sized chunk of sidewall away - probably about 2-3mm deep :0 Still holding pressures, no leaks at all.
Off road they are brilliant, and on the road I haven't noticed a difference between them and my old BFG ATs
Prices for that size might deter though :/
