they're great....
mounting one to a td5 will be problematic... my suggestion is to get the straight back PTO mount for the Tcase and fit one up to the back of the Tcase.
Has anyone experimented with these?
eBay has converted air conditioner compressors for about $350, claiming pumping flat tyres to 34psi in just over a minute
Is it worth it?
How hard are they to mount on a TD5 (without ACE)
The arb locker compressor doesn't want to keep up with beach driving anymore
Cheers!

I believe there is a thread on converting them on here somewhere. I have not looked. I use mine unconverted. Any oil gets caught in the tank and blows out when the relief valve blows off. Dont stand beside my LH front wheel when that happens.
Its a Kirby piston type belt driven off the engine.
On the 2B FC the hyd pump and compressor are driven off the PTO but that compressor is a proper air one, not Air con and I dont have oiling problems with it.
Yes do it they are great BUT you can set one up a lot cheaper than that. I put one into my 1990 RRC 5 years ago, cost me about $100 to get all the parts, compressor was from the wreckers and all the rest was just plumbing bits and pieces and hose with a small air tank where the self leveler used to be in the back. There is a thread way back in the Projects section on putting one into a Defender and I just copied some of the info from there
Cheers

Considered the wreckers option and feeling oil to the intake, haven't heard abut the pto one though! Can you elaborate?
Cheers

I bought a mitsubishi magna compressor off a wrecker, made up my own brackets ( for my V8 County) and must have pumped up over 200 tyres the time I had it. I became pretty popular with the other vehicles at the end of a days 4wding. I ran it dry, intending to spray some oil into the intake occasionally - I think I did this twice in 8 years.
I was prepared to replace it if it carked it, it never did. To engage it I had a dash switch that energised the 12v clutch on the unit, and had a primus bottle with a relief valve as a buffer.
As stated there is a tutorial here somewhere, you could use any aircon unit.
Hi Fraz I have one on my V8 county, got the bracket and compressor of an old V8 Rangie. Used a 240v pressure switch to turn the clutch on and off and a small airtank off a truck. I can take one of my 33's off the rim and have enough air to reseat the bead! and yes they will pump up 33's that quick. I pick my revs up to 1500rpm and can pump 4 33's from 15psi to 40psi in around 5 mins. and as DeeJay says you do become popular with others when they wonder why you are standing around waiting for them to use their 12v ones.

So I don't think ill get one onto a TD5, now looking into said transfer case installations or even tapping the power steering lines to run a hydraulic pump... but now its starting to get complex i think.
Try this, a evil bay offering.
