Please do. I was hoping to visit an air con specialist this summer but after importing the landy I have been met with 34 roadworthy fails and combustion blowing out the back of the headgasket... by the time I get the car fixed up and on the road I wont be able to afford any deisel let alone air con!

I will have to sweat it out till next summer but would be great to hear how you get on.

Old Fairlane IIRC, but don't recall the year etc. Maybe irrelevant now anyway from availability perspective.

These guys seem to have some gear that would fit the bill if you were going to do a under cubby box install:
12V Cool Only Concealed Under Dash Unit: Speedy Air Spares

Check out their basic kits for around $900. Still need hoses and installation etc but seems a reasonable price.

Hi all. I finally got a chance to drive the 130 (300Tdi dual cab) in to an air conditioning place for a look/chat. I was pleasantly surprised.

We narrowed it down to this being the most suitable unit. The idea is to probably mount it on the inside of the roof above the rear seat, but it remains to be seen if this will retain enough head room. It could also be mounted on the roof above the centre console to eliminate head room issues, but then it will be difficult to route the air "nicely". Either way, my idea is to fold up some ducting out of ~1mm aluminium sheet and use some type of air diffusers where necessary.

I have ditched the standard under-dash unit but retained the compressor, condenser, etc - basically everything in the engine bay. The A/C place I went to quoted approx $1900 for the previously mentioned unit supplied and fitted (along with new receiver/drier), leaving the ducting to me. The other alternative is for them to supply me the unit, I potter around mounting it to my liking, wiring it up, and then have them plumb it in, gas it up, and get it going for about $1100. This is the option I'm going for. I guess I'm going to have to start a project/tutorial thread .......

    James.

Indeed you are rainman. You might let the company know that you'll be doing that and there's a chance they might get some additional business out of it eventually.

Maybe an AULRO discount of some sort?

Really looking forward to this, but wishing I had the $ to do it today as my g/f likes air con and mine's pretty well broken !
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

I have built one of the following for a mates 130 and it was so cold his wife whinges lol
I am currently in the process of doing mine .. just a drawn out process .

You will need to get an air cond unit from Toyota Tarago , they are flat lying and bolt it under the rear seats .
You will also need an air cond guy to run the hoses from the compressor under the bonnet under the 110 chassis rail to the unit , and attach it gas it up.
Make sure you get the temp switch and fit to the front of the centre cubby box .
the air is pushed out of either side of the toymota air unit , so you will need 2x gutter -down pipe attachements , they are square one end and round the other ... get flex hose that rice burners use for cold air induction and plumb where you want the air to blow.

We had his 130 down to 14 degs on a 36 deg day ... being a tarago unit it is used to cooling a huge area .

    Total outlay around $400 mark

    Hope this helps

    tarago unit.
the air goes the front and comes out the rear.
look in the front you see a lint filter on the genuine unit.in the out let you see a barrel fanthe idea is they draw in air that has allready been cooled fron the front vents and then it blown cooled to the rear.putting it on the floor in the cold air it wont work as good.

RH side it the TX valve and it comes in several sizes.I recomend the type with the least flow rate or the hotest super heat setting.that alows you not to bother fitting gas lock solinoid or a thermostat.

these are rated at 2/3 of a small underdash unit.

    CONCORD PLUS (12 Volt) GREY UNIVERSAL EVAPORATOR [00-EV 2228] - $392.70 : Autofrost

these are $400 plus-2 yrs ago $180 easy.

Sith you mention that you've done a mates 130 but mention 110 chassis rails?
Where does it sit/bolt on the 130?
I have (or will have when I instal it) a water tank in teh tool box under the rear seat. Will I be able to bolt in this tarago unti anyway or should I ditch teh water tank and go wth teh air con (I;d really klike decent air con if it can be had for that sort of price).

davehoos - Sith reckons his system works well but if i read your post correctly you don't seem to agree exactly?
