Once you've fixed up the switch you'll need to get one of these:

    To restore the smoke balance.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Dave, you need a copy of Microcat - the LandRover parts reference list.

If you click on the "Shop" option at the top, you'll find it in there.

    Cheers wrinklearthur,

Im at work today so I will get the vin number and post it tonight...

A quick google search with the Part no: PRC8230 has led me to this type of Lock barrel and switch with a part number of QRF500110, now looking at the link: Best prices on Land Rover & Range Rover parts and Accessories (NOT NAS)&engine=200Tdi&cattext=Body Electrics&subcattext=Steering Column Lock&group=Steering Column Lock Assembly&year=1993

The vehicle fitment says it should be right and it also looks like the same one ive been playing around with...
It also looks like same amount/layout of the pins on the back of the switch, now im not fussed if it has a steering lock or not but is this ignition barrel/switch assembeley part number likely to be quotable in Aussie? or should I be quoting the part no: PRC8230?
Sorry just trying to make it as easy as possible for the Father to locate the part

Also what does (NOT NAS) mean?

    Damn needy newbies lol,
    Cheers Dave...

NAS usually means 'North American Spec' in context of Defenders.

According to my Defender workshop manual your Land Rover is a 1992 build and so it would have been probably sold in early 1993.

I would order the first part number and if it's number has been superseded it will be able to then sort it self out.

To VIN Number ****LA 932973, ...... Switch Starter, Part No 579085

    'JA' is 1992 build year
    'LA' is 1994 build year
