    Hi all,

I changed my faded and cracked originals for LEDs 4 years ago. I went for the smoked versions, which don't show colour until illuminated, similar to SVX. Flasher unit on my Td5 was behind the instrument binnacle, supplied flasher unit just plugged straight in and had an adjuster knob to get the flashing speed correct.

Not only did they modernise the look of the old landy but I think improved visibility esp at night.

I went with smoked as I thought it kinda matched the titanium grey paint....so yes, aesthetics.

    Just some added info...

NAS - are 90mm diameter side markers / lights, required for u.s market when they sold Defenders for that short period of time.

2007 - 2016 Defender models, Land Rover went away from their age old supplier of Wipac and went with some other brand, they are prone to fading, melting and blowing globes.
Changing over to Wipac (purchase a complete kit and it has the electronic relay for the indicators included) in either smoked or std colours.
2007 - 2016 the relay is below the steering column behind the removable panel.
2007 - 2016 front side markers are clear lenses, rears are coloured

SVX (2008 model) had Ricardo front seats, alum finish gear shifts, some crap silver plastic trim round the head lights, special alloy wheels, clear side markers, gloss wheel arches, matt strip on the side, not much else. mechanically the same.

Ok so I ordered the full LED conversion kit from LR PART UK ……..appears WIPEC brand mostly

    looks like

    1) the front white parking lights are plug in ( ie they have plugs ) haven’t tested if they fit yet
    I hope so ………

    2) the front and back amber lights are plug in ( they have plugs ) hope the fit

    3) the side repeaters look to be plug in ….( they have a connector that plugs into the original bulb holder )

    4) BUT …BUT …….The reverse light and the rear fog light …..just have wires sticking out of them ……….so how do I connect them ……..is there a plug I can buy or do I need to start to join wires ……..the existing wire to the existing plug for both of these lights are rather scant ….

dissapointed that the whole kit is not plug in

    Any advice experience appreciated…….

all the WIPAC kits are plugged the same as most Defenders (well lets say TD5 and onwards)
If the reverse and fog arent WIPAC with a plug, then I guess its cut and use joiners or solder

Ok change all my LED lights and flasher and all good ……now just got to fit the reverse and fog lights and that means cutting and putting on new plugs

    QUESTION

both these two lights come with a black and a white wire

how do they match up to my existing black and red wires ……never dealt with these colours before and the more I Google the more confused I get with the terminology ….hot …positive negative ….carrying current away etc

just need to know which joins with the existing black and red

and just to make things even more confusing the number plate light has a white and a brown wire …..same question

    many thanks

Use a test light to see which wire coming from the Defender is live / active / positive (use what ever term you prefer)
the other wire will be the earth.

strip the ends of both pairs and try black to black etc, if it doesnt work, swap them over.
the LED lights will only work wired one way round, you wont damage anything.
