I'd always wanted a 90, but the wife won't drive a manual and we needed a comfortable 7 seater, so we compromised and got a manual Discovery that I've been driving.... After 6 years in the discovery she loves it but still won't drive a manual....so I bought a manual 90 for me and now looking for a automatic Discovery for her.....we both get want we want:...maybe look at your getting your fantasy in a different way?

Do you need it as a full time seat, just thinking what about removing the cubby box & fitting a seat in the front?
A lot of the early Defenders/Series vehicles especially the cab variants are complied as 3 seaters.
    This may be an option.
    Cheers

Do current ADRs permit side facing seats on new vehicles?
With a fair bit of internal surgery to the front of the wheelboxes, sunken floor and a custom made 2/3-1/3rd split rear seat, 5 passenger forward facing seating capability is possible, but ADR compliance is a whole different ball game.

    back seats in a ninty

go for it get the bench seats.
I have a series IIa like that still got it but it not on the road now.
My kids loved it we drive it all the time went camping etc.
They are 16 and 18 now and they were in primary school and they still talk about it and how fun it was. They would even get cup and collect the rain water that came in the back when it went around corners.
I reacon a forward facing seat would be a bit of a pain because they don't fold out of the way as good.
The only drama would be if you had real small kids that you have to do up there seat belts and cant just climb over and sort themselves out.
