I finally saw four Defenders on the road today since getting my SIII back.
Here we go:
1545hrs Black 90 with white writing on doors on intersection of Clarendon and City Roads, Sth Melbourne. I didn't see a returned wave
Approx. 1630hrs Dark grey? 110 headed inbound on Monash Fwy. I think I saw a wave
About twenty meters behind him was a 90 I didn't see a return wave. Bit hard when there's five lanes between us.
Approx. 1715hrs Corris grey? 110 with black pack? And black trailer in tow, headed inbound on Monash Fwy. Hard to tell due to the dark tinting. Nice truck anyway.
I'm not counting the numerous negative returns from Discoverys, Range Rovers or anything else with a Land Rover badge, I've lost count.
Nathan.
When I drive the Defender on country roads I get waved at furiously by Defender owners, accompanied by flashing of the headlights 😀
However, when in Melbourne with it, if you wave to a newish Defender they just look confused.
Sometimes Discovery I owners will wave back and a few modified Discovery II's will as well.
Then when I'm in the Discovery II, I don't get any waves from Defenders and only a few Discovery I or II drivers.
Finally, if I drive the Freelander I, no one waves back.
I don't bother waving to the polished D4's & RR Sport's anymore. Most owners only have it for the image down here. What's odd is D3's seem to have all but disappeared around here.

I know the feeling well, but don't give up LRT! I'm in Melb's with a Puma 130 and am a consistent waver so hopefully we cross paths soon.
It's not nice when those folks blank you in shiny little 90's. I think the execs and business men don't want to associate with a ute driver...![]()

@mwbrydon
Thanks mwbrydon,
I'll keep an eye out. 130's are hard to miss aren't they!
Most of my Melbourne trips have been in the little blue Freelander 1 Td4. It's a bit easier to get into underground carparks etc. The great thing about it is if the Mercedes Benz drivers won't let you merge in with the traffic, just put your foot down to deploy the smoke screen! It works a treat 😂

Except when they fly past you in your SIII heading to Melbourne on the Monash early in the morning. 🤣
I'm sorry I'm late but here we go.
Thursday afternoon,
Black 110 turning onto Alexander Abe from Swan St at about 4:15pm, no return wave due to her looking wrong way.
Alexander Ave inbound same time black 110, I couldn't see a wave due to the glare on the windscreen.
Toorak Rd heading toward the Monash, black 90 (older bloke) I didn't see a return as I passed him.
Today,
Green 110 with black pack heading down Toorak Rd to Monash went right pass me. No arm out window so I'll take that as no wave.
Red 110 heading inbound on Monash I think was a wave either that or was resting arm on the window.
So total is-
Waves 1:4 No waves
I tell you what I'm a little disappointed in the lack of waves since moving to Melbourne.![]()
Waved at a white Puma shorty on the Bells line of Road last Saturday at around 7am. It had all the gear heading west. They just stared back at me blankly... and waved at a perentei in about the same spot yesterday but he was blinded by the reflection off my windscreen so no return wave. ;-)
Cheers
