Noooo! Tell me I'm off the hook!
You're off the hook as well. I'm also heading away from the city.

Damn these vixens. I haven't seen their gorgeous trundlings since my last post, but I've had plenty of other joyous waves in the past few days.

Alas not from the twin of my own Keswick 90 seen on Epping Road. Stuffed to the gills with happy fellows, they all just looked amused as I attempted the hipster sideways-in-traffic wave.

He he Kogvos, that's where you're going wrong! "The hipster sideways in traffic wave" will even make you look daggy to hipsters themselves!

The 'Land Rover Wave', as it should really be called, has always been a much more nonchalant, knowing, kindred kind of wave. Not a 'look at me aren't I cool I'm driving a defender' kind of wave.

It is, I hate to say, also rightfully reserved for series and defender drivers, because it relates to the origin of the icon and sticking with it, rather than the brand in general. There someone had to say it! I know I'll get in hot water here, but it's simply not the same acknowledging a Range Rover sport or Disco 4. They simply haven't done the hard yards of resolute icon TLC required! And the character of the vehicles is entirely different! (Happy to provoke that friendly
    debate :-)

The Land Rover, or the 'Icon' wave should not be taken lightly! .. .anyone in a Series or Defender Landy who doesn't wave is just yet to see the light...and anyone waving in a shiny Disco or Rangie (unless it's a old craggy beast of course, yup theme the vagaries of the 'wave') is either yet to drive, or deeply regrets selling their Defender!

...no desperate hipster waving here :-)

    One Victorian Waving to All

    Hi All

I am afraid I must agree but as a new defender owner I still get a buzz from seeing other defenders on the road and always wave. This is one of the great things that set us apart. So be on notice to other Defender drivers I for one will always wave to you whether you wave back on not.

Great to be part of the club

    Daniel

There's too many non-Land Rover types driving Freelanders and Discos in the city to bother waving to them unless they initiate. The only waves we've had from non-Defender Land Rovers have been in the country.

Although there is a guy at our gym who drives an Evoque who sits their drooling at our Defenders whenever we see him.

Like sands through the Defender gaps, so are the Defender waves of our lives...

    the saga continues...

I saw one of my nemesis Landy Ladies this morning but I was distracted by a fire engine and so unable to eyeball her long enough to establish contact/derision/delusion. But I did maintain nothing more than a regulation Defender Wave Stance (TM) for fear of upsetting the status quo.

But a wholly acceptable wave from a black 110 later in the morning provided the appropriate antidote.

I live to wave another day...

I just came back from a few days in Sydney. And the wave is strong and well up there. A lot better than it is down here in Melbourne. Also so many more defenders of all types driving around. Its great to see.

Got a big wave back from a bloke in a red Defender on Rochedale Road in Brisbane on Sunday morning. Back at you!

I have adjusted my waving technique to make it more visible. I use my left hand now, not the right.

    Thumbs up

Hello everyone, my name is Glen and it's been 20 minutes since my last Defender drive

I began my Defender Life with a mixed view of the Defender Wave since picking up Lizzie, my first ever Defender (she's a beauty, check out my album!)

On the 2 hour drive down the Bruce Hwy bringing Lizzie to her new home I passed 2 Defenders and no wave was returned to mine. Granted we were all delighting in motoring through a classic January subtropical squall, but as a first timer I was left thinking the wave had fallen victim to the current trend of human disconnect we seem to be experiencing.

Next day, passed another 2 Defenders and scored return waves on both counts; faith restored ...and kudos to the second of those wave-returners, an elderly couple in a flash 2012/13 model who were virtually hanging out their respective windows to ensure I was waved at properly. Let's remember safety people lol!

Another noteworthy return wave was early one morning last week on my daily drive to work, a green p-plater was more than willing to keep the tradition going.

By now, 8 weeks into ownership, I can estimate a 90% hit rate for return waves. These days that'll do me

Heading north on the Calder Highway just out of Melb, a Keswick green Defender heading south, no wave returned. But a few weeks ago on the Geelong road a very friendly Perentie exchange, side by side. Cheers to you brother!

Heading out towards Brendale yesterday I got a flash of the headlights and a wave from a white Defender with a kayak up top
But passed two defenders on the motorway going to Bribie Island and definitely didn't get a return from one but couldn't tell the other due to dark privacy glass
However, had a great day fishing and kayaking at Bribie.
And now I'm just playing with emoticons
