Might be an idea to speak with an approved engineer prior to putting down any cash.. anything decent is going to be chassis mounted.

						G'day guys,
I just acquired a 1999 Td5 130 CC (in mint condition btw!) and want to chuck an external cage on it. I've spent a couple of hours searching for some detailed pics but have come up short, in particular I want to get an idea of the mounting systems.
The SD site has a few line diagrams and there are a multitude of 30ft pics of caged up Defenders, but no close ups of an installation in progress.
Does anyone have a few links to any sites showing the nuts and bolts of a external cage installation.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The SD cage I've got is external at the front and then goes internal...
There is a long bracket, bolted to the front of the main bulkhead. The cage is mounted on this, runs up through the wing, up the 'A' pillar and then across the 'slope' of the roof. It is bolted through the roof to the inner section of cage, just above the front seat passengers. It then runs down the 'C' pillar (bolted to the seatbelt mount) and then down to a bracket on the floor. This bracket is bolted to the floor & bulkhead.
At roof level, the cage continues to the rear of the car where it drops down to the floor in 2x places:
1 - Behind the 2nd row seats where there is a bracket, bolted to some mounting points there (can't visualise at the moment!).
2 - The very rear, where it goes through the floor and bolts to a bracket mounted on the rear cross member.

Check this build at eastcoastrover, they show how the exo cage fits and ties in with internal bracing. I did have an installation diagram somewhere but i cant track it down at the moment... if i find it i will post it up.
Defender 90 Station Wagon with Safety Devices External Cage
I have a Protection and Performance internal / external.
This is what the std front mounts that sit inside the front wings look like:
They can be bought off the shelf from ppc in the UK.
The cage I bought was missing the mountings so I bought the legs above and made the rest.
Rear leg mountings
Main hoop mountngs:
Hope this helps.

Hijack! Anyone have an opinion ased on experience whether the roll cages create wind noise at speed?
I imagine mine does increase the overall noise level a bit, but in my case its so damn loud all the time I have no way of telling.

						Pat,
All Safety Devices (has to be actual manufacturer and brand) cages are proper ROPS. They are rated for motorsport and industry and recognised by a number of motorsport governing bodies.
