    MY12 Defender - engine and colour questions.

    I've finally woken up to the fact that buying old vehicles and then spending inordinate amounts of money on them eventually cost more than a new defender would, so I've decided to get either the 130 single cab-chassis or the dual cab-chassis. I was a bit jipped to find out that they had discontinued the 110 cab-chassis.

    So my questions are;

    1) What does anybody with the new engine think of it? I've found a couple of posts regarding it but any further info would be much appreciated.

    2) Would people mind putting some pics of their new defenders up with a note to say which colour variant it is? (Not sure if this has been done before so feel free to point me in the direction of a different thread) I'm pretty sure that I don't want to get the white option but I'd like to know what the other variants look like before forking out an extra $1000.

    I've tried ringing around a few of the dealers, however they all appear to come in within about $1000 of each other, my local one appears to be the cheapest so far.

    Still trying to work out how a vehicle that costs 28,000 pounds in the uk can cost $60,000 with the current exchange rates.

    Cheers.

    The price difference is due to the importation levy. The Australian government's idea of protecting the local manufacturing and assembly industry...

    It was a bit of a shock when I came over and my "equity" from selling my UK Discovery 3 was only worth a deposit on a Defender in Australia!

    There's drive away no more to pay brand new 130 dual cab-chassis for $56,300 on carsales, so not quite 60k.

    Current exchange rates have diddly squat to do with it. Pricing is on a hedged basis, that's why prices don't really change with exchange rates, they hedge where they think it will be for a certain period, get extra when the exchange is better, and less when its not and it all averages out.

    Import taxes on vehicle coming into aus, collected by our government.

    Local cars in UK are probably subsidised much the same as a falcodore is here.

    The best price I've managed to get so far on the 130 dual cab is 60,900, This includes the tray, bullbar, towbar, dealer delivery, stamp duty, GST and Rego. It also includes a no trade bonus that offsets the cost of dealer delivery.

    There's eff all import duty on cars, infact Oz has probably the lowest import duties in the world, it's only something like 5% for commercial vehicles.

    You then you have your 10% GST on top of that which is still a bucket load less than the UK's current 20% VAT.

    Freight and shear markup account for most of the difference. (the importers claim lower volumes = much higher margins need to be charged)
