Glad to hear that you bought a Defender as your first car, they really are an awesome vehicle!!

I'm sorry to disappoint you but your not quite the youngest Defender owner on the forum! I'm sixteen I bought my 1995 Defender 110 wagon a year and a bit ago for $3500 with 364000 Km's on the clock, it didn't have any accessories on it except a bullbar, I was a bit dubious at first about that many K's but after taking it for a drive decided that it was well worth the price, now a year down the track I'm very happy with it and haven't looked back once. The only thing that was majorly wrong with it was the rear diff needed rebuilding, oh and the alternator was almost shot but nothing else really noticeable.

Since then I have had the rear diff rebuilt, you should have seen the bearings that came out of it!! I suspect that someone ran it out of oil at some stage( I did the rear hubs when I got the car back from the mechanics so that was the whole diff re-done, I then got a new 100amp Denso alternator, silicon turbo hoses and I have just finished doing the front hubs and swivel housings as well.

I got a set of 130 rims off my older brother with just the original tires on, a bit of an improvement as 130 rims are heavy duty and they have a 20mm bigger off-set then the other ones, I am planning on getting 33's (and depending on how rich I am feeling at the time maybe a set of Mach 5 wheels to) sometime but just don't have the money at the moment for that.

My car is the fourth Defender in our family!!! My Dad has another 1995 110 wagon and my brother has a 1996 110 wagon as well as a 2000 130 tray back Ute which he uses for work, so yeah we are all LR nuts..... I love it!!

Well firstly congrats Pete on a very good choice and secondly congrats also to Remo for the same logical decision. I'm almost at the other end of the age list (53 soon) and I just wished I'd got a Deefer when I was your age. I grew up with the Leyland brothers roaming around Oz in a Series 3? (awaiting corrections from those in the know) in the 1970's (ask your parents about them)
You've joined an elite club with a car that will do anything any other car will do only it'll be slower, wetter and hotter which means you young guys will see more, have great stories to recount in future years, you will be safer and lead longer, healthier lives. Learn to work on it yourselves so you can save yourselves in remote areas. WAVE to other Def drivers ( tis a cardinal sin not to do so) and mostly have fun. Somewhere on this site there is a thread that talks about what cool guys Defender drivers are; have a search. Great to hear you're on board.

im also 16 and have a 110 ute with a tub got it for $5350 but needs some work to get a roadworthy nothing hard just dont have the time/to lazy. its got a bull bar 2" ome lift and 32" muddies on some nice 16 by 7 alloys.

Mate get it roadworthy!!!! They are great to drive, if it takes a couple of weekends then so be it and you definitely won't regret it. I love driving my Deefa, its such a cool car.

Hey all, I've done my oil change, and air filter, and will soon do fuel soon. I've got a new drop arm sitting in my room as well as a new a frame ball joint and also have some heavy duty steering arms on the way!! (I didn't even have it for a week before I bent them!)

Looks like I will have to have a fix it day sometime (Gotta fit it in with school and cycling though)

Congratulation you have a fine 4x4 vehicle.
If your Defe do not have one get an engine saver it is the best add on that you can have in a Tdi300.

Thanks for the advice Chucaro, the Engine Saver alarm looks like a great product. From reading some of the threads about them its a "must have" if you are ever going to let a woman drive your car!!!
