When you said 10mm rubber, did you mean 10mm wide strips or a 10mm rubber, and this stuck to the entire rear load area etc, and then you cut and glued the carpet ontop.

So by using the rubber you have quietened the beast, and then the carpet has added layers and made it look sophisticated.. correct (as sophisticated as you a Defender will get..)

I am really keen to see a photo, if you are technically or effort inclined.

I use and sell 10mm thick black rubber (as attached) in my work (air con supplies) we use it as insulation on ductwork and sheetmetal boxes. I just measured up the back and cut it to shape, peeled off the backing paper and gently put it on. Then cut the carpet to the correct shape and used kwik grip in a pressure pack waited 10-15 mins until it went tacky and fred's ya aunty, all done. It has quietened it a bit, more or less got rid of any Defender Drone and deadend the noise from stones and the like when they get flickerered up from the tyres. Got the bullbar, winch and towbar fitted on Wednesday and fitted spotties last night, just waiting for the high roof brackets for the rack, have to fit the deep cycle this weekend and wire up the fridge, might make a storage box to sit next to the fridge slide with a hinged top lid to hold the recovery gear ( to recover others of course)
