				righto, will check out Bunnings. The marine carpet looks good at BCF ($40 m 1m x 2m length), and I went to Clarke Rubber and saw they have some quite thick dense rubber for about $80/1m (x 1.5m length).
Not really a cost issue (well it is but isn't), just want to do the job well, while making sure its practical and I dont trap water and cause some future problems with removal- and sand etc building up.
When you said 10mm rubber, did you mean 10mm wide strips or a 10mm rubber, and this stuck to the entire rear load area etc, and then you cut and glued the carpet ontop. 
So by using the rubber you have quietened the beast, and then the carpet has added layers and made it look sophisticated.. correct (as sophisticated as you a Defender will get..)
