Hi,
to get screws to hold well in some softer woods, glue an appropriate sized plastic wall plug in an enlarged hole in the wood.
The screw will hold well in the plastic, take many insertions and removals without wearing the hole, and the plastic plug won't let go easily.
cheers

Not sure how it would go in MDF but golf tees work well for repairing damaged holes in timber. A bit of wood glue then tap the tee in gently. When the glue has dried cut the tee off level using a chisel then redrill.
Cheers,
Adam
