    Caddy lid falling off..

Okay.. I love the caddy in my 90 but every time I take it anywhere a little rougher than the black top the screws in the caddy lid work their way loose until the lid is only held on by the latch..

I've replaced the screws with slightly larger ones (once) but as the caddy appears to me only made from MDF as soon as it gets a little rough the screws come out again.. has anyone else had this problem and if yes what did you do to solve it?.. I don't think I can just keep in putting larger screws in as sooner or later I'm going to run out of room..

And secondly one of the rear seats won't fold up now.. I usually have them up to give me more storage space but folded them down to hold some things in place and now it's stuck.. any idea's on what I should be looking at with this?

    Cheers

You can try putting a drop of PVA wood glue in each hole then replace screw, wait 48hr before going off-road.
Failing that you can try gel type super glue, warning tho using super glue will make taking it apart later hard and messy.

Sue the kids bugged mine, and was exasperated by the lock not aligning up. I fixed it with new screws at least twice as length as original, but not much thicker in diameter. No pre drilling, just gently drive them home into the MDF with a cordless drill. Has been working for several month now.

    Sue,

At which point of the 3 point manoeuvre is the seat sticking?
I assume it is when you tilt the whole thing towards the side window, in which case it’s more than likely something fairly simple like a pebble or small obstruction in the main hinge. If it’s the mechanism operated by the little handle, it might just be dust or dirt on the locking arrangement. Like the front seatbacks, it still a fairly rudementary system!
Take it to the dealer and let them have a look right there in the forecourt!

    Hi Sue,
If its anything like mine sometimes I need to push the little canvas loop down before the seat back will lift up to the unfolded normal position. By the canvas strap I mean the one that you pull in order to lift the seat base forward. After I push the seat base back down I need to push the canvas loop catch down and then the back of the seat will lift back into the open position.
    Hope this helps.

I thought your D90 was new Sue so the vehicle would be under warranty. If so, then back to the dealer to fix.

Be careful using PVA glue in the hole as it may rust the screws, if they're put in whilst glue is wet.

I glued in some match sticks to fill the holes, then when glue was dry made a little hole with a bradawl, and carefully re-used the original screws by hand.

    Worked a treat

Thanks everyone! We (meaning Pete) is going to have a go at fixing the caddy tomorrow with longer screws and are now contemplating the matchstick idea too..

I dropped in Land Rover today to ask about the seat and it turns out it has a loose cable that isn't quite catching when the lever operates (oh and Loubrey the seat is/was jammed onto the floor)... the service guy had a look at it and suggested that I put my finger in between the hinges (above the latch) to push the cable into place when I want to lift the seat.

I asked a couple of times if it was covered by warranty but never received an answer They didn't seem to keen on fixing it as it involves pulling the seat apart.. but I'm thinking it would/should be so will probably book it in to get it fixed as it should work (especially as the seat has never even been sat on even once)..

The dealer I use don't seem to bother with arguing about whether anything reasonably small like that is covered by warranty. When it goes for a service I hand them a printed list of things I want them to fix and when I collect the car they are all printed on the job sheet as being looked at, adjusted or repaired. No major issues to date, but small things like door handles and check strap adjustments and the passenger seatback adjuster has been fixed off the list without so much as a blink.

Land Rover is one of only a few companies who still have absolutely everything on a new car under warranty. Some of the big name Japanese and American brands have or are starting to split warranty into “Mechanical & Electrical” which is covered for the full period with (some argument) and “Trim” which is only covered for the first year and then majority of those would be attributed to “user abuse” and they’ll refuse warranty repairs in any case. “Trim” being a broad term they use to describe everything outside mechanical and electrical...
