    D'fer 90 or 130

Am considering a purchase of Puma Defender in a 90 and am not sure if this is a silly plan from the get-go?

I have a family of 4 - me, the misses and two lads under 5.

Am I going down the wrong path considering size?

Does anybody have any photos of people in the back with the two new style seats?

Or should I consider a 130? I've done the 110 Extreme and am looking at something different!

    Mate,

I'm a huge 90 nut (on my 5th one in 18 years) and I can honestly tell you that it's not a family car. When the rear seats are down (unfolded) you will struggle to fit the kid's school bags. Roofracks help a little, but there is manufacturer weight limits to consider for insurance and waranty.

Your situation seems to call for a 130 Double Cab or a Puma 110, which is a completely different driving experience from an Extreme 110.

Go the 130 mate, they are a great family truck. Only thing to consider is that they don't have child seat anchors from the factory - plenty of info on here about that though.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the opinions fellas! I know that I should be leaning towards the 130, but I cannot shake the desire for a 90!

I went the 90 as a second car. My kids love it to death...even on a 4 hour trip they loved it...but they do say the seats are very upright....also consider that with 4 in the car there is not much space left......but who cares? Not me!

Same here. Always wanted a 90 and eventually got one (2005 TD5).

Huge fun and quite nippy for a 4x4 but you can't get any gear in them. With 2 of us in the front and the dog in the back there was very little room for any gear. They are VERY short!

It is now sold and we have a 110 and a 130 which are much more practical (for us). I sort of miss the 90, but not all that much that I'd ever consider getting another.

    Cheers

Defender 90s are wonderful beasties but they are not four-up touring vehicles; unless you carry essentially everthing you need in a camper trailer. I bought mine for touring but strictly two-up, and I carry the tent on the roof. If day trips are the order, then go for it. Perfect vehicle.

Do the 130 route, i just came back from 3 weeks at fraser island with my wife and 2 daughters under 2, its a little tight in the back for kids seats but still fit well, and with the ammount of crap we took(toys, clothes, nappies, food, tools etc etc) I couldnt imagine doing it in anything else including a 110.

Have you given any thought to a 110 crew cab? That way you have ABS and traction contro, which you won't with a 130.
