    Removing the Interlock solenoid on LT230

    With the fuel price rocketing I decided to work on enhancing the fuel consumption of my 110 that is equipped with a 4.2L SU carbureted engine mated to an LT77 gearbox along with an LT230 20D (1.667 ratio)

    The first option was to change the transfer box, I was able to find an LT230 28D that came from a Japanese half cut Discovery ( I am not sure if it is a Q or T type).
    This TB came fitted with an interlock solenoid that prevents shifting between High an Low gears when the ignition switch is on the OFF position.



    I need to remove this solenoid, so I did some research and found that the opinion are contradictory, some say it is an easy task while other had problems with the removal of the solenoid pin.

    has anyone done this swap and how was the Interlock solenoid removed?

    That component is installed to prevent the landrover from showing up another of toyotas many weaknesses and inabilites. in this case, hi/low and vice versa on the fly when the vehicle is operated by a competent driver.

    Easy enough to remove the only thing I'm aware of that can make it hard is extracting the pin if it doesn't come out with the solenoid and sealing the hole up thats left when you do.

    As I understand it the interlock solenoid is fitted to Jananese and USA Discos to prevent the driver changing from low to high, unless the foot is on the brake and the auto transmission in park/neutral. Probably these requirements not needed if ignition was off. They were never required or fitted to any Land Rover sold by a dealer in Australia, so few here (myself included) would have encounted them.

    The main problem which I remember being mentioned on USA forums is if the interlock was removed/disconnected in the original vehicle it would raise a fault in the computerised sytem.

    No it does not show a fault ,it is as easy as removing the four bolts you will see the solenoid ,on top of it is a sorta c clip remove then remove solenoid ,put back the cover and four bolts and you are free as a bird.

    I had one also in the auto shifter that i took out so if i loose my brake switch i am not lokked up
