Thread: LR side Folding Steps

I installed the pattern part on my defender 90 and it does the job for my wife. Relatively easy on the newer models as most of the holes are pre-drilled. The only tricky part was the riv-nut for the support strut. It does flex a little if your standing on it and I use my toe to lift it up when I'm in the car. Rarely lift it up anymore as I have to 'kick' it down when I need to get out.

In all honesty, doubt it would stand up to off road scrapes, but you can probably bend it back into place.

I have several customers with them, and they are happy with the cheaper cost than side steps, but they always say they are a pain to put up and down.

And there is always the likely hood that while trying to put them down your wife may slip alittle say if they are wet.

I stood on one on the rear of a brand new 110 2.2 wagon yesterday that a customer had just bought and it was even difficult standing on the back one to look at the rear of the roof.

Id probably try one out first before commiting too a pair.

I have them on my defender 130 for some time now. I have the real LR ones and the afrter market ones. Kids just could not climb in before. And saves wife from ripping the door handles off too trying to climb in. Would not getaway without them now. I started with just one and was sent straight back for the rest.

As said round town they tend to stay down, but even kids can pop them up and down using their feet. They hang down to about level with chassis and stick out simlar to mirrors. I have been offroad with them and they are definitely not sliders. But only one of them actually bent a little and I will straiten it some time, it still works fine. I am 125 kg and have not broken them.

I dont have the rear one on the car as too short for the 130!

I have a full set of used aftermarket ( well they dont have LR logo just ribbs) ones for sale if you are interested. 4 side and one rear. One side one needs a bit of tlc.

Hi I have picked up a pair of after market copy of these steps but I have no fitting instructions would one of you gentleman have a copy?

would rather have a grab handle or 2 inside the cab, than steps..why aren't they there in the first place..bloody L/R

I have had these (genuine) for almost twenty years. They have stood up to offroad work well, although I have had to straighten them occasionally (crowbar levering against the outrigger). They are not as good as the semicircular ones fitted to Series Landrovers, which automatically fold if they hit an obstruction.

A few years ago I had to replace the rubber treads with aluminium checkerplate.

I've fitted one for the passenger side ( short arse missus) .. Brut part I beleave . Easy enough to flip down but memory required to flip up. There not gunna last if you're thinking of getting sill deep , but It has stood the test of time and taken an indirect roo strike witch damaged the sill panel and bent affair bit but remained usable ...if the original items are the same or better quality ( I'd expect better ) I'd say get them for the wife . I find I nut myself if i use a side steps ,either ome sidesteps or fold downs .
