    Intro from Drover Dave

    G’day all,

Just thought I should introduce myself...I’ve finally decided to take the plunge and buy my first ever new vehicle, a 2012 Landrover Defender Orkney Grey 110 Wagon. Well I think I’ve been subconsciously wanting a Landrover for years now, especially after being fascinated by Aussie TV shows like “In The Wild” with Harry Butler, “The Bush Tucker Man” with Les Hiddins and reading the Len Beadell books. It was only recently that it dawned on me that the one thing they all had in common was the Landrover!
I learnt to turn a spanner in the early 70s tinkering with my dad on the family car, a 1948 Vauxhall L Model Wyvern. This led to a life of all things mechanical and later we started restoring her....and now Dad, at 80, still drives the Vauxhall to his local club events. He's also spotted some similarities with the Landrover.....flat glass windows, exposed door hinges, similar park light assemblies but where have the pop up air vents gone?
Anyway, I’m really looking forward to next Saturday when we can pick up the new Landrover. I’ve already had some accessories fitted but we’ll wait and see how things go and get the feel of driving it full time before too much more is added. The dealer was good enough to send a picture of the new ‘pride and joy’ so hopefully it’s attached.

    Cheers for now.
P.S. thought I might attach a photo of the L model too.

    G'day Dave,

Welcome to the forum. Your note brought back memories: how I used to love watching Harry Butler "In The Wild" when I was a kid. No other Australian wildlife programme since has come close to it, for my money...

Anyway, back to Land Rovers. Congratulations on the new purchase, and I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it.

    Cheers,

    John

Hi Dave and welcome! I really like the Orkney Grey colour that you've chosen.. I've seen a couple of them getting around and it's very eye catching! Don't worry about the pop up air vents being gone.. from what I've heard they were a great way to get dusty, so it may be better that they are gone.. ??

You're going to love your new Landy just like we love ours..
