I believe that the panel is for the warning lights... at least that's what the dealer told me when I ordered mine. :-S

Wow Tim what a great read, thanks for that. It really opened my eyes to what involved in the R&D for all these off the shelf items we (I) take for granted.
When it’s time to chip the Black Truck, BAS will get the nod.

yes I think your right. I was thinking of the middle larger blank panel when I posted. From the loaner Freelanders I have had, that is where trip, fuel, ext temp etc is placed.

This site gives free access to the LR parts catalogue and may give you the info you are after. It is in Russian but Google Chrome translates the page for you.

Thanks Brian, great info and handy as.
What I originally wanted was to disassemble the dash binnacle and gauge cluster. To try and change the lighting colour from green to blue and add a dimmer in to the dash light circuit? I know it’s a bit ‘knobby’ but I just don’t like the green.
Anyway after reading the article the Tim sent from Peter Bell and by looking at the pictures of the rear of the binnacle, I don’t think my idea is practical. Printed circuit, plastic welded in to position, all intricate drives for the tech and speedo. To easy for a ‘ham fisted’ mechanic like me to bugger it up completely. Bests I leave it alone.
