    Small 90 Fuel Tank

Until today I have been constantly cursing the small fuel tank on my new 90. The engine is starting to loosen up and fuel economy is much better after 6000km, but the best bit is I have to stop for fuel in more out of the way places. Today I was running low and I pulled off the Hume into Jugiong BP. There was no line up and the bloke was so friendly unlike the big servos. I then bought a lovely coffee down the street and thought, this is much better than the usual highway stops. I used to drive a Patrol with 2 tanks. I hardly stopped. The puny 90 tank has made me to stop more often and enjoy the small places and meet real people again. I am still looking forward to getting the Jerry/wheel carrier from Murray for some insurance though.

I get about 520 doing about 115 kph but if you stay at 100 you will get over 600. I have thought about the two sill tanks but at this stage I am just going to go with the jerries.

What a great little story carlschmid! It's good to see a fresh approach to a situation that could be frustrating for some (or most) .

My wee 90 is doing just under the 500 but I am having a lot of fun driving it so it possibly could inprove
It has only just clocked over 4K and it is improving all the time

The first fill was 11L/100km now at 4000k im down to 10.3L/100k

Funny thing was when I first bought the 90 and was waiting on the delivery I seen these threads and started getting worried as I was already at the fuel station all the time with the D3 V8
Even the 80L in the D3 I struggle to get 450 without the light coming on so I was pleasently surprised with the 90

I wont be adding any extra tanks to this one, Im used to the extra stopping

Great to see a fresh perspective here Carlschmid. Thanks for sharing yours.
I've been filling up when the light comes on (9 litres left theoretically) and managed 438 kms (11.5 lt/100) from the first tank and 465 kms (10.7 lt/100) from the second. On the third tank now and it looks like getting close to the 480 km mark. Very happy with the trend as the little truck has only done around 1200 kms so plenty of loosening up time to come.

I will be fitting sill tanks though, as over here in WA 500kms doesn't cut it - especially if you're towing and/or fully loaded. A roof tent and a strong headwind would soon see you in trouble.

Ah yes, hear hear! I miss the days where the old Series IIA used to breakdown constantly, allowing me to meet every single farmer, passer by, backyard mechanic, hill billy, wrecker, bakery and general friendly person between home and my final desitination and experience their hospitality.

Who says progress/technology makes things better?

    Ha...ha.!!

Reminds me of the 'good 'ol days' of driving through South Australia on a Sunday. Half an hour and 10 years behind the rest of the country.

Bloody crow eaters!! Only three servo's open IN THE WHOLE BLOODY STATE. Shell at Port Augusta, Pt. Wakefield and Eagle on the Hill near Adelaide.

With the old SIIA's 10 gallon tank, even with the later 16 gallon tank, you had no hope, and if you wanted to come back to Vic via the Wilmington Pass, Peterborough, Mildura etc, don't even think about it.

If progress meant more servo's open in SA, then I'm all for it.
