			fuel economy of a 2.4 defender

					Hi, I am tossing up between a Disco2 TDI 5 cylinder or a Defender 2.4. I was wondering what sort of fuel economy would be like in the Defender. I am purchasing a 22ft caravan. I realise towing would alter the economy but I am looking at just driving it around without the van. I am a pensioner so money would be tight.
 Hope someone can help.
 Thankyou

					My 110 Defender 2.4 has averaged 10.19l/100k over the last 3 months. 90% of that would metro driving, including towing 5% of the time.

 I've found the fuel economy is better if you "drive it", if you try and take it easy the fuel consuption is worse.

 Cheers,

					[QUOTE=one drives horses;1698490] I am purchasing a 22ft caravan. /QUOTE]

 That is a big van for 2.4 or 2.5 4/5cyl to tow.

 I have off road Coromal that is 5 meters, I wouldn't tow anything larger than that for an extended period of time with my PUMA.

 Even at that size you are making it work. I think a 22ft is equal to nearly 7meters, that is a big ask.

 Just my thoughts

					My trayback runs at 9.5l /100km around town. Bit more at high speed. Haven't done a long trip since changing the head gasket but definitely has more power.

					FWIW I just got an old defender and am wrapped with fuel consumption and I have a 200tdi. I feel it is up to towing most things I threw at my bronco. It won't be as rapid but who cares. Long term I don't know but I think it will do fine , best of luck.

					My trayback 130 will use on average between 11-13l/100km virtually all highway driving. it will do better if i sit at around 90kmh, but out here that rakes forever to get anywhere... so i normally sit at 110.

					Possibly the only vehicle on earth with better urban figures than open road... One of the small downsides of having the aerodinamics of a garden shed!

 My 90 gets comfortably under 10l/100km around town, but you have to good and steady staying under 105km/h on the open road to get anything better than 11l/100km

 I tend to drive on the revs in 6th gear rather than the speedo and when cruising the "sweetspot" is just on the 2000rpm mark in mine.

 Cheers,

 Lou
