    Three questions:

    1. Tyre size?

    2. Any rubbing?

    3. Got the beadlocks fitted?

    Quickly man, I need answers!

Running Mickey t mtz 265/75/16, no signs of rubbing havnt got the bead locks fitted as they are an option, all of the nuts and Bolt's for them came with the rims but not the locks themselves..

After seeing this thread the other day and having wheel envy, and knowing the load rating of Performance's TX1 and these, I did a search of the load rating of the HD 6.5" rims and over on the D90 forum someone claims that the 6.5" HD (holey or Wolf) wheels have a 2200kg load rating

As Tombie has suggested in the past, if you crack a TX1 (and I'm assuming these fellas) you have bigger problems than a broken wheel occurring, but I can't help but wonder about the potential implications of a lower rated wheel on a commercial vehicle (says he running his tyres tubeless with a certain design of HD rim)

I'll be buying six 7"x16" plain rims soon to match up with the HD centres so I can run the offset I want, and I can see that by the time I buy them, have the centres and current rims parted and new rims welded, then blasted and primed it'll probably end up being close to the cost of some alloys.

    Or maybe not. (I hope)

Yep, pretty sure the Wolf's have a load rating of 2,200 kg and TX1s are 1,400 kg IIRC. Terrafirma beadlock and Dakars are 1,300 and 1,450 kg rated respectively and Blindos are rated to 1,550kg.

Wouldn't be too worried about alloy wheels 'only' being rated lees than the Wolf's - the stock Boosts are only rated to 960kg and you don't see them dropping like flies..

I agree, just wondering out aloud on rego and insurance implications, but most vehicles don't strictly comply to the letter of the law anyway

Only requirement is that wheels must exceed axle weight ratings.

    Eg. 1500kg axle = 750kg per side....

    in that case on a 130, 2200kg axle = 1100kg per side.

Tombie, is that just an SA thing?

My car came fitted with Range Rover alloys and IMO they realy didn't do the car any favours. To top it off, tyres were 265/70 Insa Turbo Sahara's, an inch or so below standard height yet wide enough to rub badly beyond about 2/3 lock.

I replaced the rims with a set of Terrafirma TF101's. These are offset about 13mm further out than the standard wheel which when combined with some 255/85R BFG KM2's, puts the inside of the wheel within a few mm of where 235/85's on standard offset rims would be.

    Enough chat, onto the pics:

Well, the good news is I can now use full lockwithout rubbing, ride and handling have improved dramatically and ground clearance is improved as well. I haven't had a chance to try them out on dirt yet due to other problems that need adressing.

Downsides? Only one. They cost nearly as much as the entire car!

Thanks for all the people who recommended both 255/85 as a perfect size for the car and BFG M/T KM2's. Too many threads and too many people to post a direct thanks to!
Hey mate, I ended up with the same wheel and tyre combo as you (except in black) and am having a few wheel balance issues - did you have any issues like this?

Also, I was wondering how many turns of thread/depth of wheel nut without stud engagement - I'm sure mine are fine (12-13 turns) but he depth of empty thread in the nut is a little disconcerting.

12-13 turns is fine. From memory mine were just over 10, one more than the enclosed Range Rover nuts that I took off.

The nuts are designed that way so they can also be used on longer studs and have the thread protruding. It sure does look strange and certainly attracts comments when out with others.

I didn't have any wheel ballancing issues with mine. Nearly 12 months later still fine.
