    Polyairs perished.

    Removing the rear springs from the 1999 110 Defender found they are Lovells 405mm high with 22mm diameter wire,internal diameter 5.5"Would I be right in assuming they are a 2" lift?With the polyairs beyond their best was thinking of giving Firestone coil rite a go.Reading previous threads the Patrol ones, 5.5"x11" seem to the correct size .Do the Coil Rites have the same air line fitting as the Polyair? ie spring clips securing the hose to the bag and schraeder fitting,so simply swap the bags!

    I just swapped my stock rear springs for +50mm TerraFirma.

    The stockies are 415mm high and new +50mmTF's are the same height.

    The lift is achieved by the stiffer spring, not the length (at least in the rear).

    I pretty sure that +50mm front springs are actually longer than the stockies.

    How old are your PolyAir's ? Mine are about 2 years and look like new, apart from some dirt.

    I think they fitted Patrol sized CoilRites obtained directly from directly from Truckspring.com Truck Suspension, Bilstein Shocks, Firestone Air Bags, Timbren, Leaf Springs - TruckSpring.com


    I assume you may have to turn up nylon spacer(s)



    considerable saving compared with buying them in Oz

    Coilrites have push-in air fittings.
    When I did mine on the 110 using the Patrol kit from Truckspring, I made up a steel plate and tacked that into the top spring mount, then used the poly spacer/mount block that came in the kit as a spacer under the bag. Had to cut a groove in the block so it could sit over the lower spring retainer bar.
    Mine has around 40mm lift.

    I have not had much luck with polyairs, been through two sets in about 5 years. They seem to get rocks and dirt sitting on the coils and then it holes the bag. Took my second set out last week about 2.5 years old and threw them in the bin.

    I have seen someone who wrapped theirs up in what looked like a bandage to make them last longer.

    Have had polyairs in the classic for 10 years now and in SWMBO's D2 for 5 years with no problems. I never totally deflate them, 5 psi minimum when not reqd. to keep the bags in place and stop crap getting between the springs and the bag. When I bought the polyairs for the D2 the firestone equivalents had a woven sort of sleeve that went over their bag but from memory the bags weren't as thick.
