    What is it? Random Dash Electronics - 93 200tdi defender 110

    I had my dash apart to move some guages and install a tach and came across this covered in foam and wired into the dash loom just behind the guages .


    Anyone know what it does ? I've looked through the factory wiring diagrams and can't identify it .
    I thought my 110 was essentially electronics free. Is this a factory item or aftermarket meaning I can rip it out ??

    does it have a serial number or part number etched into the pcb on the solder side. can you take a photo of the solder side showing the tracks, it will be easier to identify.

    Highly possible that the previous owner installed it as a power supply regulator for the dash gauges. ie drops 12v down to 10 or 5 volts for the fuel, oil, temp etc.
    That or something for the hazards. See where it connects to loom and see what wires are used.

    what are the wire colours

    black is earth, white will be a power ( white red trace is dash lights) green black trace i think is fule gage and green with blue is temp, i think. but i can check when i get home.

    I can't see a normal voltage regulator that would be used (like a 7805) so I don't think it would be that. The 8pin IC is too small and would need a heatsink.

    What is written on the 8 pin IC? 555? If so, it could be a musical horn circuit or hazard lights.

    It might be a frequency to voltage converter for a tacho like a LM2907.

    Looks like a 2904 op-amp, hard to tell in that photo. Any chance of a close-up of the chip??

    If that is a white/slate wire, it should be the wire to the alternator for the tach signal. Might be some sort of signal conditioner. Nothing is in the factory wiring schematics.

    edit: Hang on. W/S can also be the low fuel warning. Probably a unit to determine when the level is low. Green/Black is the fuel level signal and W/S goes to the light.
