Thread: EGR Blank plate Puma

Yeah - won't really work with the LR Puma 'cos the engine management light will come on. Folks tried these on the Puma Defy a few years back, drilling different sized holes in them etc to try to get the EML to not come on, but then, you're still basically using the EGR......Get a Alive/Bruce Davis/BAS or similar flash remap and your EGR issues are gone forever. It completely disables it without the Engine management light coming on...

It's all very well for your add to tell you straight up that the light will come on, but what if it would have come on anyway for another issue? You wouldn't know. And I mean - reprogramming the ECU! That's what getting a flash is.

The flash upgrade from BAS/Alive etc is about $800.00 but not only do you get the EGR taken out of the equation, you get better torque and power and, ironically, substantially better fuel economy. You can easily put the original factory map back on too (and then later return to the flash) if you need to take it to LRA under warranty.

What is the issue with the EGR valve and why does everyone want to disable it?

EGR recirculates exhaust gases into the engine. This leads to reduced combusting temps, but it also introduces residue into the engine and causes an increase in fuel consumption.

one of the worst automotive inventions ever. get rid of it asap!

when you turn your truck off you can hear a quiet shaka shaka skaka. The is the EGR cleaning itself. When t starts to fail it sounds more like a chook with a sore throat. You still drive the car but fuel consumption drops away. So much so I was getting 330lm out of 65lt at one stage.

LR will happily keep replacing them under warranty, however when out of warranty it's an annoying cost that seems to re occur every 30 to 60K klm.
A remap, until this thread had been the only way to blank it off.

My local indie claims to have a blanking plate/removal method that does not cause the MIL to come on. Will investigate more in Feb 2013 when my landy is out of warranty.

At the same time an Allisport intercooler is going in

Thanks for asking that question Samblers, I've been wondering for awhile. To those that have done the EGR block, by how much has the fuel consumption improved?

Stock standard, my landy was returning 11-12l/100km, empty.

With a BAS EGR-closed only remap, i.e., stock standard performance minus EGR, we got 10.4l/100km on a 6000km trip to Namibia, *fully* loaded (RTT, camping gear, fridge, 2nd spare, etc).

I calculated that the remap cost has already paid for itself in fuel savings
