Interesting reading. Was doing a fair bit of city driving yesterday (hot/muggy) and thought the a/c was a little limp after a while. Well, when in traffic it was limp, when moving it got better, so the above comment stacks up. I had a quick feel of the floor/tunnel area but didnt seem overly warm though...

Post up here what you decide to do about heat insulation.

I have also read about thermostat failures - car is still under warranty so was considering seeing if I could get the dealer to change it out prior to warranty expiry (little white lie )

I also live in Perth and after a cool winter it hit 35 deg last week and i thought the aircon wasnt up to scratch. Then I realised the lever was on flow through ventilation for the winter demisting.
I flicked over to recycle and the temp dropped dramticaly in a few minutes.

Best option is to drive an old Tdi air con equipped Defender in the heat for a few days, after which the Puma - no matter how bad it is - will seem cold.

Haven’t tried this. I typically leave it on flow-through (fresher air). In fact I heard a Dr Karl (triple J) podcast some time ago where a caller asked about a/c in cars on recycle mode causing a build-up of CO2/ reduction in O2 levels in the car and therefore increased driver drowsiness. Just something to ponder…

Recycled when on the road so not to breath in exhaust from cars in front

Fresh air when on the track to create pressure and keep the dust out

Not sure if any of this works but sounds good in theory

That is correct....Recycle, in any car, used indefinitely, can cause drowsiness.

The heater control valve on the Puma defender is closed by the control cable pushing rather than pulling, on mine the cable was bending and not fully closing the valve, resulting in heat from the heater despite the control selected to fully cold.
