    1998 110 Defender windscreen rubber

    hey all,

I need a new windscreen rubber for my 1998 110 Defender. I had a quick look on ebay, seems there are a couple different ones??? Are they age specific? Anyone have a part number?

Are there good and bad brands?

    cheers,
    Serg

I had a few words a while ago, with the guy that does all the windscreen replacements and repairs to the Defenders at the RAAF base up the road, and he says he won't fit anything but genuine,as anything else ends up being a warranty claim.

Thanks Ned, but I dont know which part# I need

Wayne, the guy at Obriens said they are all much of a muchness when I asked about genuine Vs other....but Im preppared to go with genuine if they are actually better. Atleast Obriens are happy for me to supply the rubber as their quoted price for rubber alone was $220.....

From what I can gather the windscreen rubber is the same on all Defenders, CPE 500010 has been superceeded by CPE 500020, what the difference, if any I don't know, something to ask a dealer I suppose, just let me know if it's any use oh and I was told the same as far as genuine vs aftermarket. The pain in the arse they are to fit it's not worth it to see it cracking and splitting 12months down the line.

yes, mine was supplied when I had my window replace 2 years ago or so...it has now seperatted at the join and lets buckets of water in.

I have no confidence in dealers to have any knowledge about part# changes, different brand options etc...

CPE500020 is the most common I have seen on ebay, with some suppliers not specifiying a part#. I have emailed this mob about thsi one??

Don't know, Maybe that is an aftermarket number or maybe the original number is superceded to that. That number came out of an original parts manual from 1986. The one you are looking at in UK has that number so I would be going with that one. Price is good too.

That'll be an aftermarket one as the originals are at least £70 in the UK. I fitted a new one before I shipped my Landie, just after I replaced mine an army mate gave me the one I have (which explains the older part number). CPE500020 is the new Land Rover part number which superceeded the original I have. From what I can gather about the life of even original ones I think I'll keep it for when mine goes
