    Tubular 'A' Winch bar...

    Hi Everyone, Firstly Happy New year to everyone, here's hoping everyone has a great 2013!

    Righty O, just a quick query....

    I am interested in fitting a Tubular A frame winch bar, I am looking at either the Rovacraft bar (also sold by Mulgo ) or one sold by various other LR Independent dealers including Ritters in Melbourne.

    Has anyone who have fitted these had any problems with them or has it all been good, in this I mean in the quality of the powder coat and general build quality.

    The reason I ask this is I have a vague recollection of someone complaining about the quality of the powder coating but cannot remember if it was on this forum or another LR forum. I am equally split between the two bars at the moment although they are both very similar.

    I know that they do not offer as much protection as an ARB bar but I beleive they are lighter and this is the style of bar I wish to purchase.

    The Rovacraft bar I put on my 110 has mediocre powder coating, around some welds it had bubbled and rusted beneath it, and sheets of the pwder coat flaked off during the install because it hadn't adhered to the mounting plates properly.
    I took it off because it doesn't offer protection to the mudguards/wings, I have a genuine LR bar now and on a recent trip I rubbed all the paint off the corner of it, the Rovacraft bar would either not have touched the wall of the rut I was driving in, or deflected enough to allow the guard to stove in a bit more anyway.
    Fantastic approach angle though!

    G'day Col,
    Just a thought.......... If you do end up buying a bar and the powder coat is not up to a good standard, you could get it sand blasted and re-done. If we put it in with a batch of my wheel carriers etc I reckon it would be under $100. I have the wheel carriers blasted, then primed with a zinc based powder, then a powder undercoat and top coat.
    I know it seems wrong to strip a brand new bar, but it might mean ending up with what you want.
