    Puma 2.4 vs 2.2 in a 130

    Has anyone gone from a puma 2.4 to a newer 2.2? I've got my 130 tray top up for sale and am looking to move into a dual cab (other brands as well!)
    I've been impressed with the 2.4 for such a heavy ute, 70ks and not one issue, are the 2.2s as good/ reliable?

    From the lack of feedback can I assume that no one has been silly enough to own 2 pumas!?

    I have done this just recently in a 110. I went from a MY09 to a MY13

    And I would have to say the difference is stark. I've found the 2.2 to be a very large improvement over the 2.4. It's much much quieter and smoother, and feels much nicer to drive. Mid range power and low end power is a tad better I think that the 2.4.

    In terms of flat out power - I have a test hill that I use to compare, up to rev limiter in 3rd and then see how far back the speed drops by the top. And there is no discernible difference between the 2.2 and 2.4. (If anything I think the 2.2 is a little better, certainly it's a lot smoother offroad - there is less shunting than the MY09)

    Overall the new one is better built than the last one, it's not leaking dust or water yet, and the panels are better aligned, probably luck of the draw. BUT I do notice they have used seam sealer on all the bits that pooled dust in the MY09.

    I hated that POS puma engine in the old one - I always felt it was much noisier in an unpleasant way that my TD5 (Which I still run). BUT this new one is much better than the TD5, in every way.

    Very interested in this thread as I am toying with changing the MY10 110 to a 130 later in the year.

    Whilst the Puma isn't the quietest, it is a know factor and I have not had any mechanical issues at the 55k mark. The feedback from my dealer contact is that they have been very reliable.

    The change of motor is the biggest issue for me as effectively it is untested by time which makes me nervous. With the exception of Toyota, everyone else seems to have bigger trucks with smaller engines which at some point........ It is probably a mindset thing but at the far reaches of the grey matter one wonders if additional strain will start to show much earlier in the form of reduced engine life.

    We're onto 110 number 3. The first was a 1995 300TDi. The second a 2009 2.4 L puma, and the latest a seven seater 2012 2.2 L puma. We can even listen to music in the latest one.

    As regards 2.4 v 2.2, our impression was the 2.2 is an appreciable improvement, at least in town and on the highway. Seems to bit more zippier, cruises at 110 km very smoothly, and there is plenty of power for overtaking. Only done a bit off road so far and didn't notice any difference there. I'd say it will prove to be just as capable.

    Interesting comments, from my 08 puma to my current 10my ute the finish was a lot better, if the newer ones are better again I will be looking seriously at one.I'm also looking at a second hand f250, had a look at a new cruiser dual cab today, great engine and interior finish, but a very short tray, absurd price ($74,000) and low pay load...it drove well though, however land rover are offering some great deals on 12my 130s.
