Landrover Defender TD5 Transfer selector is stuck in neutral

    Hi all,

Sorry for asking something in my first post but has anyone encountered and issue where the selector seems to be stuck in neutral and moves around freely?

    The landy is a 2002 TD5
I only just got the car back from the mechanics today and they had replaced the transfer case.

I'm guessing that it is related to the work that they did but just after some confirmation for peace of mind that it will need to be re-repaired by them :P

    Thanks everyone.

They have possibly neglected to tighten the two nuts on the selector rod where it goes through the lever to the hi lo mechanism. This causes the lever to just float about and the operator unable to select either ratio.

It can be engaged from underneath, but on a Defender it is a bit of a pain to do...

it is not something you have done wrong
